What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

One River by Wade Davis. For people interested in new ideas, it’s vital to look beyond your own culture. In One River, you’re introduced to countless cultures–many of them now lost to the modern world. This is a book about explorations in ethnobotany in the Amazon Basin and the surrounding Andes. A specialty of Davis’ is preserving the knowledge and wisdom of disappearing cultures. In One River, he takes you on a series of journeys you won’t soon forget.

What is one piece of advice that you’d like to give?

Believe in yourself.

What is one idea that you’re going to bring to life in 2012?

Taking my knowledge of environmental history, primarily how people think about and interact with the natural world and how those beliefs and practices have changed over time, and finding more potent ways of communicating regarding the state of the natural world in our times. This is with the goal of changing behaviors and increasing the health of the planet. In other words: world peace!
