Five Questions with Ben Coleman

Who are you and what do you do?

I am an artist, author and inventor. I wrote the Origami Bonsai book series. I also just started an Internet marketing company, TheOBco.com.

How do you bring ideas to life?

My mom once said, “all you have to do to be the best in your field is WORK HARDER than everyone else.” I work hard; so hard I’ve been accused of being two people. I pay very close attention to detail and try to make sure my work is always visually appealing. If it looks delicious, I’m done.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

I don’t know of one book your community should read. I read many books and I find that merely reading is helpful in my writing. I think it’s important to keep abreast of the news and to be exposed to things we haven’t seen before, so I read the New York Times every day.

What is one piece of advice that you’d like to give?

Be patient, but constantly move forward. Make sure you build your brand by uploading something related to your work every day. This constant increase in material related to your work will pay off. For proof, “Google” the words “origami bonsai.”

What is one idea that you’re going to bring to life in 2012?

I’m going to write two more conventionally published books. The contracts are being finalized now. I’m also going to produce my first television show. 2012 looks mighty exciting from where I’m sitting!
