Five Questions with Dr. Janice Presser

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Dr. Janice Presser, aka @DrJanice, CEO of The Gabriel Institute ). We are the creators of The Technology of Teaming™, a completely new way to predict how people will perform in teams. I blog at .

How do you bring ideas to life?

It’s all about the team! When I get inspired to develop a new application for our product, my job is to frame the mission and inspire the team to get it done. Fortunately, I used our technology (TGI Role-Based Assessment) to select everyone on our team, so they’re all the right fit for their job responsibilities and for the mission of our organization (the mission is to make the workplace a better place to work).

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

There are plenty that I could mention, but right now the one I am most eager to recommend is the one I am working on. If you are an IdeaMensch ‘regular,’ you’ll be among the first to know when it’s ready. The purpose of the book is to introduce to a wide-ranging audience the answers to some important questions, including: “what is ‘teaming’ and can you measure it?” and “is there a reliable, repeatable way to build a high-performance team?”

What is one piece of advice that you’d like to give?

Leadership is a team sport. In our culture, the concept of leadership is overemphasized to the point that many corporate heads are treated like, or act like, rock stars. Except within the movement behind ‘servant leadership,’ there is not nearly enough recognition of the fact that in order to be a true leader, you must also be a good team player.

What is one idea that you’re going to bring to life in 2012?

At TGI we are acting on a vision that will enable us to introduce the technology of teaming through some awesome, ground-breaking partnerships. Shhh. They are in the works, so I can’t say where or when.
