Five Questions with Karsten Kneese

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m a 34-year-old father of 2 incredible children, husband of a beautiful woman, freelance social media designer, teacher and consultant. I mainly work with companies and organisations that are either in the social business or try to foster sustainability in their business areas. Besides that, I’m a lecturer at a university and some adult education organisations.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I think that the only way to bring ideas to life is to share them with other people. A thought or an idea can be a great starting point, but to make something fly, it needs some other people to look at the idea and give feedback on it. And then you shouldn’t be afraid of taking some risks or being laughed at. When you really believe in an idea, you’ll get something out of it.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

Probably everything from William Gibson. Besides that, I think we should read our address books more often and call people.

What is one piece of advice that you’d like to give?

Do what you like, and do it often. You can not be successful and happy when you do things that you don’t like to do.

What is one idea that you’re going to bring to life in 2012?

I’m thinking about getting in the business of sustainability and CSR consulting soon. I want to spend time with my kids and work on interesting projects; it has worked out very well in 2011 and I’m going to make it work in 2012, as well.
