Where did the idea for Dental Sleep Masters come from?

The first 15 years of my career were spent as a dentist and I had always been fascinated with the world of sleep medicine. I combined these passions with my background in marketing and realized this niche didn’t exist anywhere else.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I get to the office around 6 a.m. and spend that first hour praying, I spend the next hour speaking with my life coach and getting mentally prepared for the day. 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. are spent on everything from taking calls, business meetings, writing blog posts, speaking with members, etc. To keep myself productive I have to schedule everything, and I mean everything.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I take notes on my phone or on paper and write everything down. If I write it down, I can analyze and visualize it and this helps me bring them to life.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

The ability to interact with different people from across the world and through different industries each one of us with our own strengths. This allows us to come together and make things that simply aren’t possible to make on your own.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

Repetition and being able to take constructive criticism, it strengthens my projects and helps me improve.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

Honestly, it was being a dentist. I wasn’t passionate about it. It was 15 years of my life, but if I wouldn’t have started out in dentistry I wouldn’t be where I am today.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

I would be more humble in my approach.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Have similar conversations with different people. Every conversation I have leads to more productive conversations moving forward. I’m constantly learning and evolving in my approach to my clients.

What is one strategy that helped you grow your business?

Regional Marketing. People are looking for ease and I try to make it as simple as possible for a client to find us.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest failure was going all in on the sleep lab business and being too late. It gave me really good insight into the business and what people actually need and I was able to apply that knowledge to my current success.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

One business idea I’d be happy to give away to someone would be to come up with a dental mirror that has a little windshield wiper on it so dentists would not have to stop in the middle of a procedure to wipe their mirror.

Another one would be an app where I can speak all my ideas and notes and the program would convert them into an organized fashion that I can use and post to my website easily.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I recently went out to dinner with my wife, you can’t put a price on time with your family.

What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?

I’m a big fan of LinkedIn given my line of work. I’m also a fan of the hosting company Regfox, which allows us to set up events and conference very easily.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The Power of Now. It’s must reading for understanding why we do certain things in life and how we can improve as human beings.

What people have influenced your thinking and might be of interest to others?

Steve Jobs. His ingenuity and attention to detail is something that I’ve always been impressed with.
