Where did the idea for Ramos Law Firm come from?
When I worked for the insurance defense firms, I learned how to create leverage for the insurance company against hard-working folks who were injured on the job. After a while, I came to the realization that I identified more with the injured worker than I did with the large corporate insurance company. Shortly thereafter, I decided to fight for the “Davids” of the world rather than the “Goliaths”.
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
The practice of law is a balance of advocating in person and managing large amounts of paperwork.
The start of my day is generally planned out the day before where I call the insurance companies in the mornings before the adjusters get inundated with calls. Once 9 am starts, I handle the corresponding paperwork in the files. After lunch, I generally return the phone calls to clients.
How do you bring ideas to life?
Generally, I do a lot of journaling and self-reflection on what works and what does not work. This sparks a lot of ideas and creativity. I capture the ideas and then work them out on paper. If it makes sense, I discuss the idea with my senior staff and strategize about implementation.
What’s one trend that really excites you?
Over the past 5 years, I am really excited about the rise of the maximum workers’ compensation rate for Georgia’s working class. I believe that the workers deserve a livable wage especially if they are injured due to no fault of their own.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
I constantly look for ways to keep competitive and sharp.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Create the overall balanced strategy between work / life and keep true to it.

Coming up with something “original” is very hard.
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
Meditate.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.
Surround yourself with good people who will tell you the hard truth. It gets very lonely and your imagination can get the worst of you. Keep positive people in your life and business who are not scared to challenge you and genuinely care for you.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
I put all my eggs in one basket early in my career. I overcame it by sticking to the fundamentals, caring for people, and living modestly.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
Lobby the government to implement regulations for “emotional support animals” on flights and create a business that certifies these animals as such.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
Personal: A blood pressure cuff. I take it to remind me to keep things under control.
Professionally: Quality headphones. Hands free makes life so much easier.
What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive? How do you use it?
Evernote. I use it for everything I can. It stores my house information; goals, daily lists, notes, etc….
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
“Relentless” by Tim Grover. It helps you focus on what you are doing. Helps cut back on the self-talk nonsense.

“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
