Dirk Wuertz is an atypical winemaker from the Rheinhessen area of Germany. After doing a lot of things in his life, he discovered his deep love for the most divine beverage — wine. This love brought him to many places and wineries. Before he started his own business, he worked as a winemaker in the famous Robert Weil Estate. Since 2001, he’s produced his own wines. Because of a horrible cycling accident in 2008, he started his “blogging career.” Today the “Wuertz-Wein-Blog” is one of the most famous wine blogs in Germany.
Together with some friends, Dirk began production of the first live Internet wine show called “100 Grad Oechsle” in 2010. He also is one of the key players when it comes to Web 2.0 in both Germany and within the wine industry.
What are you working on right now?
First off all, I’m working on my personality. I try to force myself to slow down a little bit. But, and this is the most important thing, we are working on “Wine Web 3.0.” Something totally new, anarchistic and exciting.

1. Making wines everywhere in the global village.
2. The “fight” between print and online.
3. Sharing information anywhere with everybody.
How do you bring ideas to life?
The most important thing is to have a working and developing network. We are working on our network every day, very concentrated. But, for sure, you have to be true and honest. With the help of this network — people who are able to do anything quite well — we try to bring life into our ideas.
What is one mistake you’ve made that our readers can learn from?
I wasn’t patient enough. I wanted too much, too fast. So, I made a lot of mistakes, including some real expensive ones.
What is one book and one tool that helps you bring ideas to life?
The most useful tools for me are Facebook and Twitter.
What is one idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
Be present in Web 2.0. It helps you on every level.
What is the secret of producing a good wine?
Patience, humility and time.
What is the most important thing in your character?
I do not take myself too seriously!
