Garrett Gee is a Co-Founder and engineer at Scan.me.

Scan.me creates web and mobile experiences and tools that enable both enterprise and individuals to benefit from mobile transaction technologies (QR Codes, NFC, and more). These benefits include mobile web pages, mobile commerce, social media, lead generation, analytics, and more.

Garret built out his skill set as the Creative Director of Capital G Design. Capital G Designs provided web design, branding, and digital media services. Garrett attended Brigham and Young University. His areas of study were industrial and graphic design, computer science and entrepreneurship. He was also a key player on the university’s soccer team. In 2011 Garret Gee became the youngest ever inductee into Utah’s top 100 Entrepreneurs. He is also a Genius Book of World Record Holder in Tetris.

What are you working on right now?

Right now we’re working on feature called Scan Pages. Scan Pages are user-friendly mobile-optimized web pages that business and users can generate to connect and interact with their audience via mobile.

Where did the idea for Scan come from?

We were always intrigued by QR Code and other mobile transaction technologies. However, were unsatisfied with the products and services surrounding that space.

What does your typical day look like?

Madness. 25% design, 25% biz dev, 25% coding, 30% hustle.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Personal skills and talent. Each member of the Scan team has the personal skills and talent to bring their ideas to life.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

The increasing public awareness and demand for good design.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

This is my first job, I love it.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

Pay less attention to school and more attention to my education.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Wake up early.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Free Wi-Fi which monetized by an initial landing page with advertisements.

If you could change on thing in the world – what would it be – and how would you go about it?

The education system – by example.

My parents still think I’m in school.

What are your three favorite online tools and what do you love about them?

Twitter – because I can directly connect with potentially anyone.

Dribbble – because I can be inspired by artists around the world.

Scan – she’s my baby.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

Tuesdays with Morrie, because it’s the only book I’ve read cover-to-cover.
