Where did the idea for GraceLever.com & The Doing Academy come from?

Female entrepreneurship is on the rise all over the world, and I believed creating a supportive community of like-minded individuals would further encourage and empower female entrepreneurs.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I’ve worked hard to make my businesses streamlined and automated in every way possible, so my daily responsibilities are typically quite limited. On most days, I simply prepare for upcoming workshops and seminars while enjoying the natural beauty of wine country with my husband and our puppy.

How do you bring ideas to life?

There are many reasons I’m grateful to be a part of a large community of creative and inspiring entrepreneurs, and the ease with which we are able to work together on bringing an idea to life is certainly one of those reasons.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

One of my favorite phrases is this: “Stop dreaming and start doing.” Based on the way my community has grown over the years, I have plenty of reason to be excited that so many female entrepreneurs feel empowered to take action in pursuit of their dreams.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I’m habitually seeking greater efficiency in everything I do, which is the reason I am able to accomplish so much in so little time.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

I was taught that taking pride in your work makes the work more enjoyable and rewarding, but I also felt frustrated by jobs that did not take full advantage of my abilities.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

There was some trial-and-error involved in the early stages of my entrepreneurial career, so it would be nice to have access to the tools and resources I was able to create based on my early experiences.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Never lose focus on the need to eliminate all the major and minor inefficiencies that prevent you from doing the things that will help your business grow.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.

An understanding of process automation has played a substantial role in the growth my businesses have achieved, allowing me to sharpen my focus on the responsibilities most crucial for stimulating growth over a short period of time.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

I think most entrepreneurs try to tackle every last responsibility before realizing it is not possible to succeed without some form of support, and my early entrepreneurial experiences partly inspired my decision to create a community dedicated to supporting entrepreneurship all over the world.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Personal lifestyle businesses and brands are inherently unique and allow entrepreneurs to be free to live the life they’ve imagined for themselves.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

My husband and I recently bought materials for building a little cottage specifically designed for our puppy. We may have gone a bit overboard on the details, but it was worth it to give our puppy a nice space for a little rest and relaxation.

What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?

I’m very much into process automation and use software and web services for creating the templates our community members rely on when building a profitable lifestyle business of their own.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs,” by Grace Bonney.
