Jesse Marrus – Founder of StreetID
Take a second during the day to breathe. It’s not so much a business idea as it is a business tactic to keep ourselves sane and not just work, work, work all the time.
For the past 5 years, Jesse Marrus has been the managing director of Street Advisor Group, a financial recruiting firm based in the financial district of New York City. As managing director, he connects hiring managers with potential qualified candidates to create precise matches.

Throughout his time running Street Advisor Group, he experienced the inefficiencies in the recruiting process which lead him to formulate the idea of StreetID. Between his personal experience and negative client feedback regarding traditional job boards, he was inspired to create a matchmaking site connecting employees directly with employers in the financial sector.

Jesse is currently enrolled in the MBA program at Baruch College, where he is majoring in entrepreneurship. He is an avid Knicks fan and native Long Islander living in the West Village.

What are you working on right now?

After two years of developing, creating and perfecting the website, StreetID finally went live to the public a couple of weeks ago. Now my team and I are focusing all of our attention on advertising and marketing. I want to make sure that StreetID is getting in front of the proper audience and being fully utilized.

Where did the idea for StreetID come from?

During my time as a financial recruiter I used many job boards and social networking sites to find compatible matches for both hiring managers and candidates. The process was completely inefficient and exhausting. I would get hundreds of unqualified resumes for each job posting and have to sort through each one to find viable candidates.  After some years of this, I thought it would be  much easier to cut out the middleman and have candidates directly connect with hiring managers for appropriate jobs. It was then that StreetID started to take form.

What does your typical day look like?

On any given day I engage with new users on the community section of StreetID, discuss partnership opportunities, coordinate marketing efforts, handle user inquires, generally manage the site and direct my team.

How do you bring ideas to life?

A few strategies that I have found useful and successful in making ideas into realities are having a strong and apt team, being able to formulate good ideas before beginning to execute them, finalizing game plans and milestones and creating attainable goals.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

The shift from big business to smaller entrepreneurial-driven business is something I’ve been ecstatic to witness and be a part of.

What’s the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

I worked as a sales associate for a firm that created publications for sporting events. I learned that I wanted to run my own company and be my own boss.  If I have to put in long hours, I decided I want to be working for myself.

As an entrepreneur, what is one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else to do?

Networking, networking, networking. It is vital for every business no matter what size or caliber to form and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and people within the industry.

What is one business idea you are willing to give away to our readers?

Take a second during the day to breathe. It’s not so much a business idea as it is a business tactic to keep ourselves sane and not just work, work, work all the time.

Tell us a secret.
