Jesse Riemer

I continue to learn and do as much research that I can on strength training. I learn from the very best in the world on what they are doing and test out new techniques personally before I instruct to my clients.

Jesse deadlifted 750lbs and bench pressed 530 in December of 2017 these were all time personal bests for him. And the current owner of one of the best training facilities in the state of Wisconsin, River City Ironworx Gym. Jesse Riemer is married to Joni Riemer and has two sons, Jace and Jaren.

Where did the idea for Academy of Strength & Fitness LLC come from?

I have been involved in strength sports since the age of 15. It has been by dream to own a gym and training facility to be able to help other athletes achieve their goals.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

Each day I attack one area of marketing that will help grow new membership for the gym. I spend most days writing training plans for clients and making gym members feel welcomed when they arrive at my facility. I also maintain all financial records and book keeping for the gym.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I research all pros and cons to new ideas. Cost is usually a main factor. For example, I recently purchased new bumper plates for the gym. I paid extra for a more durable plate that will last a much longer time and will save me the hassle of having to replace the plates at an earlier date.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

Facebook advertising and various techniques used in social media to obtain more members. Spending money on advertising can get very expensive so I’ve decided to focus most of my advertising on the social media platform. I’m also excited about getting student athletes involved in strongman/woman lifts. These lifts are very functional and critical in an athletes training program to improve strength and speed.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I continue to learn and do as much research that I can on strength training. I learn from the very best in the world on what they are doing and test out new techniques personally before I instruct to my clients.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

I grew up on a farm it was very hard work. Making hay in the summer when my classmates were at the beach was not as fun. However, it taught me what hard work was and gave me a motivation to excel in life.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

I’d probably hire a business coach. One that has had a lot of success and started from nothing. Id also hire an advertising agency to understand my current target market. Even though I know a lot about strength training there’s a point where the business side becomes even more important.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Continue to prospect. Even when things are going well and memberships are going up its important to continue to keep the funnel full. Know your competition see what they do both good and bad. Maintain a list of new ideas and focus on one area at a time. Often there are many things on a business owners plate so its important to pick a task and complete that task.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

Ensuring the current clients and members that I have are happy. Retention of people we already have is just as important as finding new people. Allocating an advertising budget. You don’t want to be the business owner that the one time you advertise is when you are trying to sell!

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

I enjoy lifting weights and spend a lot of time doing it. I needed to make a decision if I was a powerlifter or a business owner. I needed to focus more of my time on running a business rather than my own personal powerlifting goals.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Be visible! If there are community events in your area attend them. Donate a T-Shirt and hand out flyers. The more people you can reach out too the more the word will be spread of what you have to offer thus increasing your business.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I spent $100 on a Facebook advertisement and received a return of $1100 in memberships that hopefully I can retain for future months.

What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?

When members come in the gym they sign in on a system called MTS. This allows me to track dates and times of when members are here, when they expire, and my payroll for my employees. It also gives me a full contact list of everyone that comes in the gym.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

“Lone Survivor” because it is a true account of an American hero that did what he needed to do to saves lives and survive.
