Joel Friant

Realize sooner that success is all in the mind.”

Joel Friant is a serial entrepreneur and free market enthusiast with a penchant for product creation, home-based business, and subconscious success training. Joel thrives on helping others to succeed in, as well as exceed their initial expectations in both their personal life and chosen professions.

After a short stint in real estate sales and home remodel, Joel entered the restaurant arena in 1995, creating the nation’s first ‘Fast Food Thai Concept’, branding himself ‘The Thai Guy’. It was during this time that he also took his passion for the Habanero Chile Pepper and created and began selling his flagship product, The Habanero Shaker.

Proving sales of his product in some of the largest grocery store chains in Washington State, Joel moved on to doing his own Real Estate foreclosure buying, rehab and selling, commonly known as ‘house flipping’. In 2003 Joel then took his real estate experience and desire to help his friends and others own a home, and quickly learned the real estate mortgage business, rising rapidly to become the top sales person in his office, and then going on to open a branch office of an innovative new company in mortgage lending.

After the financial crisis of 2008, Joel began studying in earnest why some people become successful in life, (both financially and otherwise) and some fail. Creating his own concepts called, among others, ‘The Income Thermostat’, and drawing on early writings from Maxwell Maltz and Wallace Wattles, Joel began teaching his concepts to anyone who would listen. He has now written articles for worldwide success publications, and spoken to thousands in online seminars.

In 2012 Joel took an interest in online sales, where after completing a course selling on eBay & Amazon, began successfully selling his Habanero Shaker as well as others’ products through these mediums. Not long after, Joel saw what was fast appearing to be a revolutionary new concept emerging called crypto-currencies, and learned as much as he could through attending meetups and talking with industry leaders throughout the country.

Joel currently is engaged full time in success training utilizing his created concepts, helping others understand crypto-currency and the blockchain, and furthering his love, passion, and health benefits of his Habanero Shaker.

Where did the idea for Habanero Shakers come from?

I LOVE the Habanero Chile Pepper, and there were no 100% Habanero Shakers on the market. Most were mixed with salt, or other less expensive spices. A friend in high school gave me my first Habanero, and I was hooked right away. I also visited Jamaica and fell in love with a variety of the Habanero, the Scotch Bonnet. I thought I’ve just GOT to somehow make it so more people can enjoy this stuff. People think it’s too hot, but it’s not when served in a dried shaker format. All the flavor still comes through too!

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I always use a calendar, and do my best to follow my rule of getting the most important things done first! It’s often too tempting to deal with the little things first, the easy stuff, and then tell yourself that the things you would rather avoid will have to wait till tomorrow.

How do you bring ideas to life?

First I go on a bicycle ride. That’s where my mind is the clearest. I formulate what I want to do, and actually stop multiple times and write my ideas down on a piece of paper. That’s right, you can see me stopped on the side of the road, on my bicycle, writing things on a piece of paper. LOL

What’s one trend that really excites you?

The spice trend. More people’s taste buds are ‘waking up’ to the spicy feeling of the chile pepper.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

Again, always writing stuff down. I see my piece of paper or word document as my hard drive, and my brain as ram. I always like to get my ideas out of my head or ‘ram’, so I have more space to fill my head up with more ideas. I also don’t spend so much energy constantly trying to remember what I want to do or that next great product or marketing idea.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

Scraping gum off a sidewalk. It’s not going to go away just looking at it. Action is key. Get it done, and get that ‘hook’ out of your mind. By hook, I mean we all have things we know we need to get done, but don’t get to. These are all ‘hooks’ in our mind that keep our minds from running at full capacity. Remove the hooks, and increase productivity!

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

Realize sooner that success is ALL in the mind. We really do send out vibrations, and those vibrations look for ‘like’ vibrations. If we are sending out vibrations of lack, of anger, of resentment, or negativity, then we pull people and situations towards us that are also negative. Send out positive vibrations, and watch your life change for the better!

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

Learning from people who were already doing successfully what I wanted to do. I didn’t take courses from people who were selling courses to make their money, I took courses from people who were earning their money from DOING what they were teaching. REAL education starts AFTER you leave high school and college.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

I associated with the wrong people. I did this because I was looking outside myself for a leader. I wasn’t looking for the leader inside me, and not trusting myself. Thinking others were better than me, and that they were somehow special or were specially gifted. I overcame this by getting fed up with no real results, and finally decided, ‘If it’s to be, it’s up to me!’ I stopped making excuses, and got busy. EVERYTHING positive, and I mean EVERYTHING, happens just outside of one’s comfort zone. No risk, no reward. Too many people want security. Security breeds mediocrity. Security, or the feeling of it, is the biggest ‘drug’ ever pushed on society. Try not to accept that weekly paycheck thus giving yourself a sense of security. Believe in yourself, take risks, do the hard stuff everyday, and watch your dreams materialize!

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

Offering at my church. ALWAYS give joyfully. Giving to and helping others is the surest and quickest path to happiness that I have found.

What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?

I might be dating myself, but I still love Outlook’s calendar. Skype of course, as well as Facebook for marketing. Marketing both myself, as well as my products. Just stay open to anything that you feel can be helpful, but don’t get trapped by too many ‘gadgets’ or programs. Connecting with people, not staring at a screen is where success ultimately is created.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

This is easy! (Gotta give you TWO though) The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles, and Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. Most books that deal with success and the mind are just re-hashes of these two gentleman’s work. Written in 1910, The Science of Getting Rich gives you the real answers to create wealth of ALL types in your life. Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon. Why should a person listen to him when it comes to learning to be successful? Read it and find out!
