Justin Rundle – Co-Founder of Workout Anywhere
If I were to start again, I would have hired someone to develop our site. At this point it’s running optimally and turned out exactly how we imagined, but a true expert could have had our site up and running in a fraction of the amount of time.
Justin Rundle’s passion for health and fitness started at an early age. As an athlete, he studied the latest trends in training programs and sport performance to accelerate his playing ability. This helped Justin become a four-year collegiate football starter, which earned him titles such as First Team All Conference defensive end (Two Time Winner), and one time Second Team All Conference defensive end. Justin had a short taste off professional football through tryouts and practicing with an Arena Football team. However, this did not materialize into a career venture.

Instead, Justin turned his extensive experience within different athletic arenas and his passion for fitness and nutrition into a system to help others. He has worked with every fitness level, including the most novice client to military personnel and collegiate athletes. He specializes in fitness, weight loss, mass building, flexibility, sports performance training, positive motivation, nutrition and home fitness programs.

What are you working on right now?

As of right now I’m working on improving our new fitness membership site. My wife and I believe in continuous improvement. Whether this regards health, business or life, continuous improvement is a principle we live by and try to instill in our clients and members.

Where did the idea for Workout Anywhere by RundleFit come from?

Our membership site, “Workout Anywhere,” came from the demands of our own clients and their peers. During our tenure as personal trainers, strength coaches and nutritionists, we heard the same excuses over and over again with regards to avoiding fitness in a daily routine. Whether someone was short on time, not part of a gym or despised exercise or felt that training and memberships are too expensive. We felt that these were not valid enough reasons to avoid being fit and active. In short, we developed the ultimate home, work or traveling fitness program that is for all ability levels, can be done anywhere through the convenience of modern mobile technology and does not require equipment. We can provide a quick and effective fat blasting workout within 15 minutes.

We know that we are not the pioneers in the home fitness industry, but our program addresses many of the issues the other programs fall short on. For one, we provide a new, weekly workout video with a beginner, intermediate and advanced version. We provide warm-ups, challenges, whole food meal plans, recipes, Q and A and coaching for only $9.95/month.

How do you make money?

We make money by offering various membership levels. We offer a free trial, monthly, annual and platinum level. Our monthly membership level is our “Recession Proof” price for only $9.95/month. Our annual membership is at a discounted rate for $99.95/year and our platinum is the same, but with an additional, custom meal plan for $149.95.

What does your typical day look like?

A typical day consists of working on our site (answering questions, blogging, writing meal plans and marketing), exercising (in the morning with Workout Anywhere, and in the evening training for the CrossFit Open) and running a high school fitness camp and parents’ boot camp.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Originally, our business ideas were just that, ideas. Years went by, and we felt like we were only dreaming about creating a fitness membership site. Our desire to help a bigger audience of health goals finally formulated last summer. We were scared of the online world due to lack of technical skills, but after books based on positive motivation “The Secret,” we studied, implemented and designed a solid blue print for our program. As well, we have received valuable aid from more knowledgeable sources.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

According to some leading fitness magazines, home fitness and juicing are some of the top fitness trends of 2013. This gets us really excited, because we endorse both and thoroughly love each category. Home workouts are a convenient method for obtaining most fitness goals and when complimented with a raw, organic juice, one’s health is surely in check. The juicing craze has been a part of our diet for a couple years now and is a major contributor to our healthy lifestyle. As well, juicing has inspired several popular recipes found on our site.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

The worst job I ever had was my last one, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Don’t get me wrong, I loved working with my clients and interacting with members, but at the same time I dreaded working around a toxic management and staff.

It was a very strange atmosphere. The morale of the staff at a health club should be positive. In contrast, it was highly negative, high stress and unfriendly. As a positive person, I didn’t mix well with this environment. So, when it became apparent that it was time to leave, I embraced the opportunity. Even with the uncertainty of, “what next?”

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

If I were to start again, I would have hired someone to develop our site. At this point it’s running optimally and turned out exactly how we imagined, but a true expert could have had our site up and running in a fraction of the amount of time. At this point it would come out the same cost wise.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Work on constant improvement. I know I’m reiterating what I said earlier, but striving to improve your product or service will really set one apart from the competition. As well, the customer will appreciate a valuable product. They may not see how much effort and work went into that product, but customer satisfaction is huge and pays dividends.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest failure as an entrepreneur was trying to do it all. It was my goal to learn every business aspect and to be in complete control, but the causes information overload. As the CEO, you need to develop working relationships and delegate tasks out the experts. My learning curve was pretty impressive, but everything is more efficient now that we are working with others.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

I think a great business idea would be an online CrossFit site with all of the CrossFit workouts indexed and in video. I know there are some that have parts of this, but an actual site with all of the main Workouts of the Day, and original workouts every week would be legit.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be and how would you go about it?

The one thing I would change is our economy. I would encourage our society to become energy independent with clean energy. In turn, this would not only save the environment, but it would create energy independence and countless jobs.

Tell us something about you that very few people know?

I would love to travel the world. You would think news as exciting as this would have been shared already, but not so.

What are your three favorite online tools or resources and what do you love about them?

My three favorite tools for online use are Press Releases, Backup Buddy and Elegant Themes/Digital Access Pass. Our site, Workout Anywhere is a Word Press site with a theme designed by Elegant Themes. This gives us the uplifting, positive and trendy look and feel we originally envisioned, while Digital Access Pass handles the back end, membership management portion. For peace of mind, we have Backup Buddy saving all of our files and running regular backups.

For promotional purposes, Press Releases have been a great source of getting the word out. As a new online business, Press Releases are one of the best ways to establish credibility and promote new products. Even being a tenured fitness expert with a proven home workout system, it’s hard to rise to the top of the rankings or develop a massive following in the first stages. This takes time, but with Press Releases it can happen much sooner as long as you have great content to back it up.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

There are several books that top of my list, but the one you should definitely read first is “The Secret,” by Rhonda Byrne. It’s basically the ultimate, positive motivation guide to any goal or dream and it’s packed with real world testimonials and stories from the greatest minds in human history. It’s one of those reads that can be life changing as long as one reads it with an open mind.

Three people we should follow on Twitter and why?

Health Habits, has a broad array of health and fitness news. He’s always giving away good advice and fitness tips.

Bob Proctor, is a huge advocate for the power of positive thinking and personal development. He has dynamite content that translates into life and business.

Jennifer Abernethy, is the CEO of The Sales Lounge and writer of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Social Media Marketing. She is always giving away great tips for social media purposes.

When was the last time you laughed out loud? What caused it?

The last time I laughed out loud was last night. The cause: Anchorman with Will Ferrell. I’m easily amused.

Who is your hero, and why?

My heroes are my parents. I have had other sport icon heroes, but the real, true-life hero category falls upon my parents. Collectively, they have taught me virtues such as: perseverance, humility a strong work ethic and to never always aim for goals. I wouldn’t be in the position I’m today without them.

What’s the quickest way to lose body fat?

There are a number of quick ways to lose body fat. A well-balanced, nutrient dense diet consisting of whole foods, in tandem with total body workout programs (following the High Intensity Interval Training method) is the most effective program for quick fat loss. However, the real question one should be asking is; “how do I create a healthy lifestyle?”

Most home or infomercial fitness programs are designed for quick results in a short amount of time (if one makes it through the program). This is due to human nature wanting the “magic bullet,” or “easy button.” Sure these programs work, but twelve-week highlights rarely amount to lifestyle shifts. Plus, most people are not ready for the physical demand of the most popular home workout programs. After watching the infomercials you can tell that even the fitness models in the workout are exhausted. Their jobs are to always be in tip-top shape in case a workout program calls their name.

The key to building a healthy, sustainable lifestyle is constant improvement. Granted, we have the same advanced fitness level as the other programs, but we also have a beginner and intermediate version too. For every testimonial the other programs have, there are plethora of people who burned out simply because of this variable. Starting with the appropriate fitness level and nutrition program and making constant gradual improvements will not only give someone the same results, it will create a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.

How many pets do you have?

I have two dogs (Siberian Husky and German Shepard), one cat (Himalayan) and a bird (Parallette). It’s a full house.
