Lyvonte Mazerati Byrd is a native of Houston, Texas.  He is the CEO of GAME TITE RECORDS.  Game Tite Records  is the largest and fastest growing independent music and video distributor in North America and holds the most competitive market share among independent label. The company boasts a diverse roster including pop, rap, independent film management and model management; covering a wide spectrum of genres in both music and video.

Game Tite Records manages physical distribution of CD, Blu-Ray and DVD inventories and is a leading online marketer and wholesaler of entertainment products through partnerships with online retailers. Game Tite is a leader in digital distribution, aggregating content for multiple partners including iTunes, Netflix, Amazon, CD Baby, Awol, Sony Playstation, Xbox, Rhapsody and many others.

What are you working on right now?

Mr. Byrd is on a mission to help artists release independent projects and to be able to promote their products by covering all aspects of the entertainment business.  He also works with a few hand-chosen artists on a more advanced basis, wherein he puts his company name behind the artist.

Where did the idea for GAME TITE RECORDS come from?

Mazerati Byrd has always loved hip hop music but decided to learn the business side of the fast growing genre.

What does your typical day look like?

He says his day is not a typical 9-5 work day.  He is at work 24/7, meeting with other label executives, artists, producers, media and more. He is always available.

How do you bring ideas to life?

By assisting artists and models to showcase their music, talents and energy to the world.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

Security officer with a 12-hour shift. He could never stay awake for the entire shift.   However, he learned that this type of work was not for him.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

He would have researched the demographics of the country more to see what area was best for his type of business.

What is the one thing you did/do as an entrepreneur that you would do over and over again and recommend everybody else do?

He would advise anyone to do thorough research on any company that you use for distribution. He also would limit his inner circle from the beginning.  He learned that everyone doesn’t wish you well on your road to success.

He is afraid of heights.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

He plans to develop an online interactive magazine with free music downloads.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The Musician’s Atlas.  This will provide an artist or anyone interested in the music business with a look at how the business works.

If you weren’t working on running your record label, what would you be doing?

He would still be working the 12-hour shift at the security company trying to get a raise and stay awake.

When was the last time you laughed out loud? What caused it?

When he read the Houston Texan’s quarterback was out for the year – unbelievable.  He said he laughed because it was so close that it was just unbelievable.
