Where did the idea for Social Mobile come from?

The idea for Social Mobile was born when I experienced first-hand how tedious the process of provisioning of mobile devices was. Sales clerks were spending 20 minutes per customer manually inputting lines of code. I knew that I could simplify this process, so I patented a solution and started to make it available to the market.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I start each day at 6AM. I try to knock out the most pressing items by 9AM. I get home at 6PM, have dinner with my family, read books to my son, and get to bed around 10PM.

How do you bring ideas to life?

First, I write everything down. In order to actually bring an idea to life, I walk through every aspect with my team to determine the best path to success.

What’s one trend that excites you?

I find it fascinating how ioT products are emerging in just about every aspect of daily life. Eventually, just about everything will be connected.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

Waking up at 6AM daily makes me more productive as an entrepreneur. It allows me to sync up with our China team and prioritize any new objectives.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would advise my younger self to build a strong team immediately. In order to be successful, you must have a solid team.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on?

Black coffee tastes great. My team finds it strange that I drink my coffee without any sweetener.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Read. I recommend that everyone read some type of content daily.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

A key strategy that has helped me grow the business is diversity. By diversifying our portfolio of products and services, we are able to continue growing, even when one of our products/services isn’t doing well during a given time period.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

When we first started the company, an industry giant wasn’t happy about us taking any of their market share. They put out a subsidy that made it temporarily difficult for us to continue selling in a specific market. I was able to overcome this failure by diversifying our business model to include several new service offerings that would be difficult for them to replicate.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

I believe someone should create an online platform for first time entrepreneurs that walks them through contracts, insurance, hiring, negotiations, legal, sales, support, and all of the ins and outs of starting a business. A complete A-Z blueprint of how to efficiently launch and operate a business. I’m confident that there would be an immediate demand for this platform.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I recently bought new headphones. Nothing beats a great set of headphones.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

I use the Microsoft Suite. I use most of the apps, either for my business or personal communication.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

I think everyone should read “Blue Ocean Strategy” by W. Chan Kim & Renee Mauborgne. It will provide any entrepreneur a firm understanding of how to improve their overall business strategy in order to stand out from the competition.
