Steven Andiloro is an accomplished businessman in the security industry. With his hard work, leadership and adept skill in personal security, Steven has grown PSS into an incredibly lucrative and large business that proudly protects clients from around the country.
Steven’s affinity for security and protection began at a very early age. When he was only 17 years old, Steven knew that he wanted to help protect others. And so, with that in mind, he made his dreams a reality by becoming a bouncer at a popular club in New York City. Only two years later, through hard work and determination, Steven became the head of security for several night clubs throughout the city. It was this same spirit and ability that drove Steven to set his sights on the larger picture.
Using his knowledge of security and business management, Steven flexed his entrepreneurial muscles and founded Professional Security Solutions.
As the founder and manager of PSS, Steven is responsible for any and all operational activities and projects. Whether it be a contract negotiation, employee payroll or on-site security duty, there isn’t an aspect of the business that Steven Andiloro doesn’t oversee.
PSS offers a wide variety of services, ranging from private security detail to public events to secure transportation. Outside of his professional career, Steven is an avid lover of martial arts. More specifically, Steven Andiloro has studied aikido, jeet kune do and taekwondo and is extremely proficient in all three. He also takes the time to pass his teachings on to others.
Where did the idea for Professional Security Solutions, LLC come from?
I came up with the idea for Professional Security Solutions, LLC while I was very young. I have always had a passion for protecting others and maintaining safety, and being a bouncer allowed me to live out those passions. After a few years, I had become the manager of security for several clubs in the greater New York area, and I simply wanted to form my own company and compile my own group of security officers.
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
I wake up early in the morning, either go for a run or go to the gym for a workout, then it’s straight to the office. I respond to some emails and attend to whatever the business’ needs are. Sometimes that includes speaking with clients or my team. Then for the rest of the day I’m pretty much out on the field, assisting and overseeing my team on various assignments and security details.
How do you bring ideas to life?
You draw up a plan and set a deadline. Nothing will ever get done unless you have a deadline.
What’s one trend that really excites you?
Biometrics is incredibly fascinating. Using the human body as a password or key to a lock is already breaching the mass market. Fingerprint scanners and facial recognition are already making their way into smartphones. I’m incredibly excited to see how we can improve security with biometrics.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
I’m always working on something. Create a list of several projects or errands that need to be done and once you complete one, move straight to the next one. You’ll have incredibly productive days and the day will fly by.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Be patient. While success can be measured in a variety of subjective ways, it is almost always a process. Work as hard as you can in the moment in the hopes for a brighter, more successful future and don’t rush.
Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on?
That everybody needs security. Every business, every home needs some type of security and safety implementations.
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
Question myself. Even if you have all of the experience in the world, never assume that you can quickly and easily solve a problem or start a project. Take a step back, look at the bigger picture and ask yourself some questions. Should I have done that? How could I have done that differently? How can I do this better? Trust me, it works.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.
Stay consistent. Bottom line: when you say something, do it and follow through. It is a must.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
A sharing economy service that allows users to act as cooks and sell their food to other users. Take the idea of Uber or Airbnb and apply it to food, and that’s basically what I’m proposing.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
New pair of boots. When it comes to security, you’ll want the most durable and comfortable pair of shoes you can find.
What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive? How do you use it?
Google Drive. It allows me to stay in contact with all of my clients and personnel. We can share documents, messages and emails from virtually anywhere; Google Drive has streamlined communication for my business exponentially. I recommend that everyone use it!
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi; it’s an absolutely fantastic read. It will open your eyes to a lot of things.
