I believe that in order to truly change the world we need to be “selfish” in our self-love…I think real self-love is pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and doing the “scary” things to truly get the life you want.

Tiffany Toombs has worked in the health, fitness and wellness industry for over 18 years in Canada, the US and Australia. After completing a Bachelor of Kinesiology specializing in Athletic Therapy from the University of Calgary, Tiffany began working with athletes to rehabilitate their injuries. Following an unexplainable gut feeling, she moved to Melbourne, Australia to work with various sports teams.

It was while living Down Under that Tiffany realized she could help more people globally achieve their goals and live extraordinary lives through harnessing tools that rewire the unconscious mind. Thus began her journey of study and personal discovery.

Having returned to Canada, Tiffany now works as a coach, and keynote speaker to teach other people how to harness the power of their unconscious minds. Tiffany has a unique ability to combine her science background with modern day spirituality to help her clients overcome limiting beliefs, influences and emotions from the past that have been hindering success in any area of their life. Tiffany draws on her in-depth knowledge of the science of the body and mind to assist clients in thinking outside of the box to develop creative ways to fulfill their life purpose and passions. Tiffany uses NLP, Matrix Therapies, Archetypal Coaching and a holistic review of the client’s lifestyle – including nutrition, movement/fitness regime and self care strategies to empower clients to change their lifestyles through learning to love themselves and emotional clearing. Where did the idea for Blue Lotus Mind come from?

I created Blue Lotus Mind Coaching & Training when I realized there was need for a personal development company that went beyond fluff and positive affirmations. When I started Blue Lotus the numbers were that 5% of people who attended personal development workshops would take action and they would experience long lasting change 5% of the time. The techniques that were being presented at that time required heavily on willpower to create change. I wanted to create a place where people can access current information and techniques that will allow them to make long-lasting change in their lives by changing the default settings in their unconscious mind, as opposed to “thinking” their way through change.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I’m blessed to be flexible in where I work from and to have variety so that each day is different. My week is typically a combination of corporate and public workshops or seminars, 1-on-1 client sessions, networking functions and meetings and administrative work (creating & sending invoices, writing, marketing, prospecting). I have a very organized time blocking system in my diary that ensures I accomplish everything I need to each week.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I like to start and end my day with various forms of meditation. In the morning I use the “stream of consciousness” writing technique outlined in the book The Artist’s Way. This allows me to complete a brain dump of all the logical things whirling around my brain, and then to connect to the creative side of my brain. I end up writing a lot of the articles I’ve had published this way. This writing technique, as well as my meditations, conversations with others and social media, usually bring me new ideas to implement in my business.

Once I have an idea I complete a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) as well as a market and competitor analysis. I complete any research that is needed to implement my idea and begin to plan the roll of the program or service into my business.

What’s one trend that excites you?

There are two trends that excite me at the moment – one being that people are generally more open to ideas of personal growth and development. I love that people are beginning to look at how they can create positive change in their life for the greater good of their environment.

I hate to call it a trend, but the recent spike in women’s empowerment also excites me. The bulk of my clientele are women who have been suppressed in some form. It’s truly an honor to watch their journey to overcoming the issues they never thought they could and to stand strong in their power.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

One thing I do well that makes me successful as an entrepreneur is that I sit down every Sunday night and plan out my week. I make a list of any resources I need, plan out my travel time to and from meetings and pre-schedule my social media posts. This eliminates an unnecessary administrative time on Monday morning and allows me to jump in and do what matters most – help my clients!

What advice would you give your younger self?

If I could give advice to my younger self it would be that life is a marathon, not a sprint. I burnt myself out a number of times in my early entrepreneur days by trying to do it all myself and thinking I could keep up 80-hour work weeks. I’ve since learned that it’s just as important to schedule in time for myself to do the things I love so I can better serve my clients.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

I believe that in order to truly change the world we need to be “selfish” in our self-love. I think a lot of people believe in self-love, although it’s easy to get caught up in the notion that self-love is red wine, bubble baths and a “treat yo-self” mentality – which is nice sometimes! But I think real self-love is pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and doing the “scary” things to truly get the life you want.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

I think one thing I continually do as an entrepreneur that’s made me successful is to continue my own learning and growth. Learning is a key part of staying ahead of the curve and getting your message out there. And learn different things – marketing, tech, health, meditation – just learn. You’ll be surprised how many ways it links into your business.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.

The face of my business changed when I began running workshops and presenting. Something in people’s perception changes when you stand in front of a room to deliver information. You become more of a thought leader and expert that way. Getting clients and referrals was easy after a presentation because people felt as though they knew me and that we had connected.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest failure to date as an entrepreneur is getting into business with the wrong people and not setting up expectations in advance. I think I was naïve when I started and assumed that because I shared a vision with someone that we would all work equally as hard to achieve that goal. This mis-trust in the wrong people led to a $1.8 million loss in my first year as an entrepreneur.

Luckily I was mobile and flexible enough that I could create ways to survive past the loss. I had this incredible belief that I was doing something I was meant to do and that I would get past this setback. I’m sure I considered quitting at some point, but I knew deep down that I had to keep going. Holding onto that self belief got me through!

However, it was by trusting the wrong people that I’ve learned my greatest lessons around setting boundaries and protecting my interests in the business.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

I’m not sure I have one at the moment!

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

The best $100 I spent was on a massage. I had just changed beds and pillows and my neck was killing me. My sleep quality was poor which meant I struggled to get myself started in the morning and had no energy to network or do new things.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Lead Pages is a website I use continually to help me improve my productivity. I use lead pages to sell all my products and services. The automation and synchronization with my email database is seamless and means less administrative work for me in the long run! I use Lead Pages to create sales funnels that link to all my social media advertising. This also allows me to re-target people who visit the landing page but don’t buy or sign up on the first visit.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

I would recommend the book “The One Thing” by Gary Keller to other entrepreneurs or those looking to start their own business. I think where a lot of people go wrong is that they attempt to spread their focus onto too many ideas and projects. The lack of focus on any one thing means they don’t truly excel in any area.

What is your favorite quote?

My favourite quote is by Thomas Edison – “If we did all the thing we were truly capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.

Key Learnings:

• Overcoming failure in business is a matter of perspective. Choose to see the as the obstacle we need to give us the lessons we need to reach the next level.
• Prioritize your “me” time and allow yourself time to do the things you love. This creates an opportunity for you to return to the business with fresh, rejuvenated eyes
• Making learning a priority. Surround yourself with people smarter than yourself. Read books. Listen to podcasts. Continue to learn and grow so you can continue to succeed.
• Self-love isn’t red wine and bubble baths. It’s about becoming comfortable doing what’s uncomfortable so you can live an extraordinary life.
