Where did the idea for TDL Global Ventures come from?

After 20 years of working in the finance and credit space, I realized I wanted to help others fulfill their dreams. So I found a way to eliminate the common barriers that keep people from receiving much needed loans and I ultimately came up with a product and program for consumers that gives them what they want: RELIEF.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I generally start my day off with a cup of coffee and breakfast with my kids. Then I scroll through the news and check my email before squeezing in a quick workout before I head to the office. Knowing what is going on in the news and in my industry puts my day into perspective and helps me prioritize. Working out each morning definitely helps clear my head and energizes me for the rest of the day.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Where there’s a will there’s a way and in the case of being an entrepreneur, you can have all the ideas in the world, but without the will to make them happen they will never come to fruition. So I would say will combined with my past experience with real estate led me to work in mortgage banking and to my venture with TDL.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

The developing technology surrounding home remote functions is pretty exciting. I love that I can control my a/c, fans and lights from the touch of a button. I have a couple security cameras set up and so that I can check on my home at anytime from my phone. It’s amazing how much you can do through technology.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I keep myself hyper organized and keep my finger on the pulse of every aspect of my business. Knowing what is going on at each level of my business helps me make more informed decisions.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

In high school I worked at a grocery store for about a year. Although I learned the value of money and working hard, I quickly learned that the grocery store business was not for me.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

The people you surround yourself with is so important. If I were to start again, I would be more cautious with who I bring into my sphere of influence and how I promote a culture of trust in my business. You want to surround yourself with people that challenge you and promote growth.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Get up and work till you can’t anymore then work some more. Building a successful business is hard work and takes everything you’ve got. Even though your work may feel repetitive and mundane after a while, it is important to constantly remember your goals and the bigger picture. It takes a lot of small moments of hard work to get to the bigger places.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.

Like I said earlier, it is so important to foster a culture of trust and honest communication in your business. Despite setbacks, we have been able to grow and move forward because those involved in my business trust each other and feel comfortable voicing their thoughts and concerns with me and vice versa.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

I had a business deal that went sour and set me back to square one. So I woke up the next day put my pants on and starting playing the game again. I just had to use different game pieces, different doors and more umph.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

When it comes to housing, there are so many house-finder sites that people feel overwhelmed and confused as to who trust with their information. Just as Google as dominated the search engine space, there is still space for someone to dominate the house-finding space. There are a couple top contenders, but they are not always up to date with housing information. I think there is still space for a business to rise above and become the Google of house-finding.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

My fitbit. It does everything I need– tracks my sleep, whips me into shape, keeps me accountable and plays to my competitive spirit. I know it has phased out a little, but I am still a fan. I have a competition going on with a few coworkers, which has been pretty fun.

What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?

I custom build all of my software with amazing developers. I think it’s vital that your systems work exactly how you work.
