Where did the idea for Tom Leydiker Foundation come from?

I have always been involved with various philanthropic efforts both in my hometown of New York, as well as supporting organizations who have a more global-focused mission. Recently, I had the opportunity to sponsor Tikva’s Annual Gala at Escape NYC, which really inspired me to get involved on a much larger scale. I wanted to continue supporting the causes that are very important to me, however, I wanted to do it on a more frequent basis and in a more substantial way. With this foundation, I want to address the short-term and long-term needs of people around the world. This includes disaster relief efforts all the way to economic empowerment.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

Because I am involved in so many endeavors, phone calls and responding to client’s needs is what fills up most of my day. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you have a job working with so many people, so it’s important to stay organized and tackle one issue at a time. The more organized you are, the more people you can help.

How do you bring ideas to life?

My team and I put our ideas through the workflow channel. Once we feel that the idea is solid enough, we implement trials and engage in research to measure the potential success of the idea. If these trials prove favorable, we continue along the process. If they don’t, we kill the idea. When you think you have a good idea, work diligently to execute it. It’s also important to surround yourself with experienced investors and partners. Thanks to them, we have been able to bring our ideas to life and watch them work for the greater good.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

The increase in debt relief assistance available to the public in today’s world. The clients’ success stories that I have heard of them pulling themselves out of debt and turning their lives around is what keeps me going, so I am glad there has been such an increase for this sort of help.
