Torie Borrelli is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist (NC), natural chef, and the founder of The Vida Well by Torie Borrelli, a wellness brand that is cultivating a health-conscious community across the globe that craves a new, well way to live. Borrelli works alongside leading naturopaths, chiropractors, and doctors across the globe to help them deliver nutrition to their patients. Through one-on-one consultations, Borrelli develops unique, personalized programs to combat everything from daily issues, to leading chronic diseases. Personal programs are based on in-depth blood work, genetics and analysis. Away from her desk and day to day consulting, she is often found in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes that combine flavor and optimal nutrition. Some of her recent creations, recipes and menus, have been adopted by leading health and wellness establishments like Rancho La Puerta’s Juice Bar in beautiful Baja California, as well as Woholle Juice Bar in La Jolla, CA.

Where did the idea for come from?

The concept of The Vida Well stemmed from my passion for teaching others about nutrition and how to eat healthy nutrient-dense food.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

Everyday is different, but typically I wake up around 6:30am (without an alarm unless I have a meeting) and drink a huge glass of Kangen Ionized water, usually with apple cider vinegar or some fresh lemon. Next, I have my Bulletproof and then I jet out the door. Bulletproof and my high-fat diet supports me in being productive and a having a clear cognitive function. On a good day my workout happens in the morning (hopefully at least 3 times a week) where I try to do a combination of interval training, yoga, reformer pilates and surfing.
Then my day is filled with either computer work, consulting for companies, recipe creation, guest blogging, listening to podcasts and coaching clients with their personal health and nutrition plans.

How do you bring ideas to life?

My ideas, large and small, are accomplished through one-on-one client consultations, tons of education and researching, The Vida Well blog, guest writing for companies and being an ambassador for brands that align with my core values and that resonate with my community.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

Ketogenic – I am soaking it all in.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

High-fat diet…aka brain food.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

I once worked for a doctor who was not the nicest person, which translated to long hours, too much non-productive criticism and stressful days. On the flip side, learned just how much I loved working with patients and knew that one day I wanted to have my own private practice of some sort.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

There’s not a ton of things I would’ve done differently when it comes to my specific craft, but as far as being a business owner and entrepreneur, I wish I knew more about the social media and marketing side of things. If I realized how important it was back then, I may have dedicated even more time to learning best practices for efforts like that.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Stay positive, get quality sleep, do NOT overbook yourself, find time for yourself to do what you love, be with family, and of course eat healthy!

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.

Continuing to see one-on-one clients. Word of mouth about a client’s personal experience has kept me busy with new incoming clients. The value of a friend or family members opinion and recommendation is so crucial in my business because it is such a personal life choice.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

Being too hard on myself and comparing myself to others in my field who are accomplishing so much more. I am trying to focus on growing in my own way, and doing my best. When you focus on your competitors (direct and indirect) you lose sight of your own vision. I try to keep myself in check the best way I know how – by being authentic and confident.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

I’d love to invent the world’s first and best self-cleaning juicer. I love fresh juice, but I dread the clean-up. And, I think a lot of other people would agree with me. There are some juicers on the market that claim to be “easy to clean”, but I haven’t found the ONE yet that solves my struggles.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

My last Bulletproof order, it keeps me feeling amazing, full of energy and ready to tackle each day – and it doesn’t hurt that it tastes delicious. I wake up every morning excited to drink it.

What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?

I currently use Squarespace and GoDaddy for my website. In particular, I find Squarespace has more cons than pros for what I need right now. One major lesson I learned early on was that I really needed to my homework before starting to use a service or hiring someone to help me. When you do thorough research you avoid getting sold on smoke and mirrors.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

“The Power of When” by Michael Breus – this book talks about your Chronotype, that helps you identify your best schedule. We are all different with different needs. By knowing body’s inner clock, you can improve your sleep, digestion, exercise and overall health.

What people have influenced your thinking and might be of interest to others?

Peter Attia
Dave Asprey
Sally Fallon
