What are you working on right now?

Wiley just contacted me about doing a LinkedIn book for them, so I am working on the TOC.  I’ve also got a few webinars coming up I’m finishing:

  • LinkedIn, Your Questions Answered
  • LinkedIn for Women
  • Social Media for Retailers

What does your typical day look like?

Typical?  Is there such a thing?  This is what I would like it to look like (and sometimes it even does)

  • Wake up at 6, meditate, exercise
  • Write for an hour
  • Look at email / my social media
  • Do follow up with clients and leads
  • Work with clients and or work on presentations or product
  • F2F networking
  • Done by 6PM
  • Do something fun!

3 trends that excite you?

Games that actually bring some social currency to the table (like Empire Avenue).

Social CRM’s to help me manage all my connections (Like Batchbook).

Social Media Schedulers (I’d love one formatted like my calendar).

How do you bring ideas to life?

Synchronicity.  Not to get too woowoo – but I’ll visualize them coming to life, and usually within 48 hours someone will have contacted me with whatever pieces or opportunities I might have been missing.  Its weird.  And cool.

What inspires you?

Amazing people who use social media as a forum for sharing:  Mari Smith, Mile_Stelzner, Pam Moore, Stacy Zapar (most connected woman on LinkedIn) etc.

Also – I get inspired by my clients who charge forward and succeed.

What is one mistake you’ve made, and what did you learn from it?

Only one – I have to give you two:

1.  I still fall for the “buy this product and your life will magically change” crap.  Whether its an over-priced mastermind group or a get rich quick internet marketing scheme… What have I learned?  Trust my instincts and don’t do it to other people!

2. When I started teaching social media for marketing I thought I would prove you didn’t need any other methods by eliminating all my “non-social” marketing.  Like my email list.  Stupid stupid stupid…

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Only one?  Can’t do it!

1.  www.lujure.com has the best and easiest Facebook page builder I’ve seen and they have a free options.

2.  Keyword optimize your LinkedIn profile.  You won’t get business if you can’t get found.

3.  Trust your instincts first.  Always.

4.  Don’t do business with people you don’t know, like or trust.

What do you read every day, and why?

www.socialmediaexaminer.com because they always have valuable info I can share with my tribe.  And I just love Mari, Amy and Mike.

My email, @mentions, Facebook mentions and LinkedIn messages – because the best way to lose a potential client is to ignore them.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read, and why?

The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann – because even though they don’t mention social media at all, the 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success are exactly the laws that anyone involved in social media should be adopting!

An of course my book when it comes out

What is your favorite gadget, app or piece of software that helps you every day?

IPhone.  I could not live without it.  Followed very closely by my Macbook Pro and followed up with my iPad

Three people we should follow on Twitter, and why?

@MariSmith – because she is a brilliant, generous and an limitless source of knowledge

@TreyPennington – because he “gets” and practices social media the right way

@BobBurg – because he is the original Go-Giver

@DabneyPorte – because she is a valuable source of information and a ton of fun.

@MilesDavis and @TaariqLewis because they are an excellent source for electronic sales and marketing tools information.

@Qualman because he is an excellent source for businesses that need to learn more about social media

@Sanderssays (Tim Sanders) because he really can save the world at work.

@Choosepeople cause its such a cool concept in employee happiness

Who would you love to see interviewed on IdeaMensch?

@BobBurg and @Sanderssays.

When is the last time you laughed out loud? What caused it.

A few minutes ago.  It was a text from my boyfriend.  Which I can’t share with you.

What do you wish someone had told you earlier on?

Do what you do best, and when you can afford to, hire people to do what they do best in leveraging your company.  What I mean by this is  – a few years ago I was taken way off-track because I got all caught up in the “leverage your business with product” internet marketing model.  I dropped the speaking and training push (which I love to do and am very good at) in order to make a product to sell that I would make millions at.  For 6 months I focused on creating a product that ended up showing very little return on my time and monetary investment. Not only were the sales meager, but while I was so busy creating product, my pipeline emptied. I wish I had just focused on building my business doing what I knew and loved and then hired people to create and market my product for – or at least with me!

What is your greatest source of support?

My main source of support is my faith.  When I don’t know what to do, I give it to God, get quiet and wait for an answer.  (If you are uncomfortable with God, then “Spirit, or “universe” or “The Field” work just as well.)
