Corey Hunt Lewiston

Corey Hunt is the Owner and Master Electrician of Rocky Coast Electric, serving the Lewiston-Auburn area of Maine. His career reflects a simple belief: never stop learning, never stop improving, and always treat people with respect. Those values have shaped both his work and the company he continues to build.

Corey discovered the electrical trade while attending a career centre in Lewiston. In 2014, he began working on solar installations in Massachusetts with a roofing company that was expanding into renewable energy. Starting as a helper, he worked his way up to foreman while learning every part of the job through hands-on experience.

After returning closer to home to spend more time with his growing family, Corey continued developing his skills and eventually earned his Master Electrician licence in Maine. He later joined the IBEW, travelling across the United States and working on projects with several union locals, including jobs in California. Every project strengthened both his technical knowledge and leadership abilities.

In 2023, Corey founded Rocky Coast Electric with a vision of building more than an electrical company. He wanted to create a business known for craftsmanship, honesty, and customer service. Today, he continues to grow the company while mentoring others and embracing new technologies such as solar energy and electric vehicles.

Outside of work, Corey enjoys reading, basketball, swimming, and spending time with his wife and children. His Christian faith remains central to his life, influencing the way he leads, serves others, and approaches every opportunity with integrity and purpose.

What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

Most days start early. I like having quiet time before work to read, pray, and organise my priorities. Once I’m on the job, I focus on solving problems, communicating with customers, and helping my team stay productive. Every day is different, but staying organised and showing up prepared makes a huge difference.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I start by learning everything I can. Then I make a plan and take action. I don’t wait until everything is perfect because progress comes from doing. I also ask questions and learn from people with more experience whenever I can.

What’s one trend that excites you?

I’m excited about solar energy, battery storage, and electric vehicles. The electrical industry is changing quickly, and I enjoy staying ahead of new technology that can benefit homeowners and businesses.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

Reading every day. I don’t stop reading. Learning from books has made me a better electrician, leader, husband, and business owner.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Focus on becoming exceptional at your craft. Your reputation is built one job at a time. Be patient, keep learning, and don’t compare your progress to anyone else’s.

Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you on?

I think being kind makes you a stronger leader. Some people believe you have to be tough or intimidating to earn respect. I’ve found the opposite. You can treat people well, hold high standards, and still get great results.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

Never stop learning. Whether it’s reading a book, asking questions, or learning a new skill, constant improvement creates opportunities that you can’t predict today.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

I step back for a few minutes. I pray, make a list of what needs to be done, and focus on one task at a time. Small wins create momentum.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

I focus on doing quality work every time. Customers remember honesty, communication, and reliability. When people trust your work, they recommend you to others. That kind of reputation takes time to build, but it’s worth it.

What is one failure in your career, how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

Early in my career, I sometimes thought working harder was enough. I eventually realised that communication is just as important as technical skill. Customers want to understand what’s happening, and employees need clear direction. Becoming a better communicator helped me become a better leader.

What is one business idea you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Create a business that teaches people instead of simply selling to them. If you help customers understand their options and make informed decisions, they’ll remember you long after the project is finished.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Jobber has been a great tool for scheduling jobs, communicating with customers, creating estimates, and staying organised. It keeps everything in one place and helps the business run more efficiently.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast you’ve gotten a ton of value from and why?

One book that has influenced me is How to Win Friends and Influence People. It taught me that relationships matter in every part of life. I also return to the Bible every day because it shapes my values and reminds me to lead with humility and integrity.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

I recently enjoyed The Chosen. I appreciate the way it explores faith, relationships, and personal growth. It reminds me that leadership begins with serving others.
