Dr. Haroon Hameed, M.D. began his medical career after completing his residency in 2011, followed by fellowships in 2012 and 2013. In 2021, he founded Duality, LLC, a medical software company later incorporated as The Duality Companies, Inc.
From 2011 to 2012, Dr. Hameed completed a fellowship in pain medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. The following year, he pursued an additional fellowship in Endoscopic and Arthroscopic Spine Interventions at Mid Atlantic Pain and Spine Physicians. His leadership roles have included serving as Medical Director of Interventional Pain Management at Kure Pain Management and later as Medical Director at Clearway Pain Solutions.
Combining his background in medicine and computer science, Dr. Hameed developed Duality, a cloud-based B2B SaaS application that integrates with widely used electronic medical record systems like Athena Health. As CEO, he designed algorithms for pain management applications and led the software development team as both Product Owner and Scrum Master. Alongside his entrepreneurial endeavors, Dr. Hameed continues to serve as the Director of Regenerative Medicine at Clearway Pain Solutions.
Dr. Hameed’s research contributions include numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in pain management textbooks. He has presented on various related topics and maintains active memberships in several professional medical societies.
What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?
My typical day involves waking up early, exercising, getting ready for the day, and then working constantly until the afternoon. At that point, I would usually engage in some sort of socializing for a couple of hours before returning to working on my legal degree-related activities.
How do you bring ideas to life?
Generally, I like to start with a high-level concept of what I am trying to build and then I break the problem down into smaller pieces. I’ll try to break it into as many large problems as possible, and then further break each large problem into smaller problems. Finally, I attack it by dividing the problem up into smaller problems and make sure I don’t miss any details.
What’s one trend that excites you?
I think a trend that excites me is that more people are open to the idea of using artificial intelligence to assist with decision-making. I believe that artificial intelligence will ultimately replace low-level decision-making. This would leave medium-level decision-making to human beings in developed economies. I think that this will free up our time, not only for leisure activities, but more importantly, for improving our professional capabilities and improving professional knowledge. Ultimately, decreasing the constraints of mundane and repetitive activities will allow for greater opportunities to utilize human creativity explore and solve new problems.
What is one habit that helps you be productive?
A habit that makes me more productive includes making lists and being organized in terms of my calendar and scheduling. I think the key to my productivity is organization, through its various forms.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would’ve told myself to take more chances. To take bigger, earlier, chances, decide not to play, and just follow my heart.

I think I have a tendency to get most people to agree with things I say.

Work harder and smarter than the competition. Remove the limitations in thought and action placed on yourself by will, chance, and circumstance, and outwork, outthink, and outdream your cohort.

I think the best book I’ve ever read is Candide by Voltaire, for cutting through the nonsense and getting to the heart of what’s really important in life.
What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?
Probably the show Landman, because Billy Bob Thornton is great actor and the story is relatable on a lot of levels.
