What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?
I like to start my day by going for a run at least three times a week as this helps me get ready and focussed for the day. I am lucky enough to like close to my practice Glenholme Dental. My practice is limited to complex implant cases, So my day consists of a mixture of surgical procedures, consultations, and restoring dental implants. If I have any full mouth / same day teeth cases however, I usually focus on just one patient for the day.
How do you bring ideas to life?
I am an ideas man. I have lots of ideas so I need to be careful and focus on the best ideas that are the most useful at the time. I usually run them by colleagues and my practice manager before implementing them.
What’s one trend that excites you?
Working with biology rather than replacing it. I love using PRGF to let plasma allow natural healing and reconstruction for a fantastic result.
What is one habit that helps you be productive?
Being on time or early, and allowing enough time for my work so I don’t over run. This reduces stress and ensures my work it the best it can be.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t be afraid to say no.
Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you on?
That my jokes are hilarious.
What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?
Read more, and spend less time on screens on social media.
When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?
Go for a long walk in nature with my family. It never fails to put things in to perspective.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?
Train staff rather than hire them. I would always choose to train up an existing staff member than hire someone for a specific role (if its feasible). They will always be more engaged in their role that way and become a valuable person to discuss problems with.
What is one failure in your career, how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?
Trusting someone else with my finances. I overcame this by learning financial systems myself so I can be in control where I can, but also understand what is happening when I need to engage someone on my behalf.
What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?
3 shape with my trios scanner. It makes my workflow for patients so smooth and seamless. I use it routinely every day for case planning and making implant crowns and bridges.
Do you have a favorite book or podcast you’ve gotten a ton of value from and why?
Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari, as it provides an invaluable insight in to the possible future of AI.
