Joe Brown

Joe Brown is the Founder and CEO of DearDoc, a leading technology company that empowers independent healthcare practices to compete and thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Based in New York City, Joe has spent his career at the intersection of entrepreneurship, healthcare, and innovation. Under his leadership, DearDoc has grown into a trusted platform used by thousands of private practice doctors across the country, helping them attract more patients and streamline operations through AI-driven tools.

Joe’s passion for healthcare innovation stems from a belief that independent doctors deserve the same competitive edge as large corporate chains. What started as a small bootstrap operation has now expanded into a suite of intelligent products including AI-powered chat, review generation, online booking, and voice assistant technology. In 2024, Joe and his team launched an AI voice assistant that enables practices to handle patient inquiries 24/7 without lifting a finger — a game-changer for private clinics.

Joe’s approach to leadership is grounded in clarity, speed, and ownership. He’s a strong advocate of empowering others through smart systems and believes the best leaders remove complexity so others can shine. Beyond DearDoc, Joe actively mentors early-stage founders, contributes to growth communities, and speaks on topics ranging from startup scaling to customer-driven product development.

When he’s not working, Joe can be found lifting weights, running, or chasing his toddler around the park. He lives in New York City with his wife, Nicki, and their son, Jude.

What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

I start early, usually with a workout and a cold plunge to wake my body and mind. My mornings are for deep work: strategy, writing, or product. Afternoons are for calls and team alignment. I batch tasks ruthlessly to stay focused.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I pressure-test ideas by talking to customers. If they resonate, we build lean versions and let the data guide us. Fast feedback beats perfect planning.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The rise of verticalized AI — tailored AI tools built specifically for niche industries like healthcare or law.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

Doing the hardest thing first, before the world wakes up.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t wait for permission — just start.

Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you on?

“Work-life balance” is often misunderstood — it’s not about working less, but working with intention.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

Get clear on your why — and revisit it often.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

Go for a long walk with no phone. Movement clears mental fog.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

Obsess over customer results. Not satisfaction — actual outcomes. It drives retention, referrals, and growth.

What is one failure in your career,  how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

In the early days, I hired based on “friend vibe” instead of skill. I learned that the right person in the wrong seat can hold the whole company back.

What is one business idea you’re willing to give away to our readers?

An AI assistant that audits a website in 30 seconds and generates a custom SEO plan — great for agencies.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Ninety.io — we use it to run all our team meetings, hold each other accountable, and stay aligned on quarterly goals.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast you’ve gotten a ton of value from and why?

Book: Law of Success by Napoleon Hill. It reframes success as a process, not an accident. Timeless principles.

Podcast: My First Million — a goldmine of startup thinking and mental models.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

The Founder — it’s a masterclass in persistence, vision, and the uncomfortable truth about business scaling and ownership.
