Where did the idea for Keely Harris Group come from?

I have been in the real estate industry for more than 15 years. I worked with some of the leading real estate brokerages in the United States before founding Keely Harris Group. That includes JP And Associates REALTORS (JPAR), RE/MAX Trinity, and exp Realty — a renowned real estate brokerage that operates in 14 countries across the globe.
While working for these companies, I started dreaming of owning my real estate agency. The feeling of being employed was not very gratifying; that’s why I wanted to start my own company.
I founded Keely Harris Group, my real estate brokerage company, in 2005. It was a dream come true and never looked back ever since.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

My typical day is usually hectic. I am a mother and wife at home and an entrepreneur at work, so striking a balance becomes really hard sometimes. I wake up quite early, do my daily workout, then enjoy a healthy breakfast with my family. Before leaving for work, I sit in my study for half an hour and plan my day. I’m blessed with a very dedicated and hardworking team that makes things easier and streamlined for me. After returning home around 6 pm, I don’t take any official calls or never check my email till the following day. I sleep around 9 pm, and that’s how I make things happen daily.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I am a dreamer by nature and have worked hard to become an achiever over time. I have numerous ideas going on in my head, but at times I struggle with thinking things all the way through. That’s where my team comes in. I talk things out with them, brainstorm ideas, and then make a practical plan. In other words, I bring ideas to life by discussing them with my team, sharing what I want, and then letting them help me see how it can be done in the best way.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The COVID-19 pandemic has fueled migration from major cities to the suburbs. This is a fantastic trend that I personally like so much. Many industry experts predict the pandemic-fueled shift to the suburbs will remain through 2025. Suburbs is an attractive and affordable option due to lower taxes and cheaper housing and rent prices.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I follow a routine and religious belief in “early to bed, early to rise.” You remain mentally and physically more active and productive if you have a sound 8 hours of sleep. I eat clean and work out to rejuvenate my energies.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Never give up! Even if you feel like losing, keep your head high and your eyes on your goal.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

“Hard work is not a requirement for success, but fate is.”

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

I am a mother, and I insist upon what I call “love connection.” I’ll hold my kids, hug them tightly for ten or twenty seconds, and think about how much I love them. Do this with your kids at every opportunity! I cannot recommend it more.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

In a competitive real estate industry, you need to stand out among your competitors to succeed. One strategy that helped me grow my business is to offer personalized services to satisfy each client’s needs. Every home seller or buyer has unique needs, and I walk with them every step of the process to ensure 100% satisfaction.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

During my first year of entrepreneurship, I was so focused on getting new clients that I failed to follow up with my existing contacts. Being unable to build strong relationships resulted in a lack of returning clients. But very soon, I realized my mistake and set up a good email marketing campaign to regularly stay in touch with all my contacts.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

I would encourage entrepreneurs to invest in tech development that can benefit the real estate industry. There is a great scope to research in this field. Consulting with industry experts to develop such valuable technologies would take real estate to the next level.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I believe in doing charity a lot and most recently donated some amount (more than $100, of course) for a noble cause.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?

Google Tasks is my go-to app for planning things.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The Millionaire Real Estate Agent” by Gary Keller with Dave Jenks and Jay Papasan is indeed the industry bible for many aspiring agents and current top producers, including me.
