Liz Brown

Founder of Sleeping Lucid

Liz Brown is the certified sleep science coach and founder of Sleeping Lucid, a company dedicated to creating quality sleep-related content.

When she was young, she suffered from chronic insomnia which affected her physical, emotional, and mental health. Fearing that her condition would get the best of her and strain her relationship with others, she quickly sought for a solution only to find that there wasn’t as much information on sleep disorders. Unfazed by this, she continued to research the latest trends and try out the newest sleep products, hoping that she’d find the perfect one for her.

After some time, she became a certified sleep science coach that overcame her struggles. However, she felt that something was missing. She couldn’t help but feel sorry for those who were still suffering from sleep disorders and she simply couldn’t just wish them well. She then came up with a mission and that was to share her expertise with others. With the help of the perfect team of like-minded people, she started www.sleepinglucid.com which is steadily becoming a safe haven for people who are longing for a good night’s sleep.

Up to this day, Liz is doing the best she can in order to promote holistic health through sleep.

Where did the idea for Sleeping Lucid come from?

The idea for Sleeping Lucid was inspired by my struggle with chronic insomnia. I feared that the sleep disorder would get the best of me and affect my relationship with others. I didn’t want to exclude myself from society nor did I want to strain my relationship with others. I wanted to do all I can to be healthy again and that’s why I started researching cures for sleep disorders. By the time my love for sleep habits grew, I wasn’t just content with being knowledgeable anymore. I wanted to help others by sharing my expertise and helping them to live a well-slept and well-lived life.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

My idea of a typical day includes three major points: taking care of my kids, managing my business, and going out to see the world. These are the three things that mean the most to me and what motivates me every single day.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Bringing my sleep ideas to life includes a lot of researching and purchasing new products for me to try. I believe that it’s only important for content to be authentic and in order to do that, I insist on testing these products out for myself.

What’s one trend that excites you?

A trend that excites me is sleep retreats. It’s nice to see that sleep is slowly starting to gain the recognition it deserves. Through this trend, I hope that people will give importance to their overall health and realize that there are quick and easy ways to maintain that.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

A habit that makes me more productive is definitely my strict practice of good sleeping habits. I personally believe that a healthy mind and body makes you more determined to take on new tasks and ride out new waves.

What advice would you give your younger self?

A piece of advice I’d give to my younger self is that I should’ve appreciated my in-the-limbo moments more and not stress about it. Life is too short to be worrying about things that are yet to happen. As long as you stay healthy and happy, you’ll have enough strength to get through the day.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

A frustrating truth that no one seems to agree with me on is the importance of sleep and how it can’t be replaced. A lot of people think that there are better ways to be healthy such as exercise, yoga, and the lot, and although these are certainly effective, sleep is still the easiest and most holistic way to be healthy. We should never ever neglect our sleep.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

One thing that I’d recommend others to do is to develop a mindset that’s open to growth, rejection, and failure. The world of entrepreneurs waits for no one and the best way you can keep up is by being emotionally and mentally strong.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

A strategy that has helped my business grow is keeping myself updated with the current trends. For bloggers like me, information is power and the first one that gets a scoop on the latest trend is bound to outshine the rest.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

A failure that I overcame when I started my business was improper planning. I guess this is what happens when you transform a business into a hobby, you’re bound to think that everything’s okay as long as you’re having fun, but businesses require discipline. Thankfully enough, I had the helping hand of my loved ones who helped me get myself on track and be more strict with work.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

A business idea that I’d be willing to give away is specialized and personalized blogging and influencer marketing. The great thing about blogging about your expertise is that it requires a whole lot of passion with little investment. By blogging and eventually becoming an influencer, you get to make pursue something you’re passionate about while making something out of yourself.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

The best $100 that I recently spent was for a family get-together. With all the pressure from work and self-doubts, spending time with my family takes all my worries away since they inspire me to continue doing what I love.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?

I’ve recently discovered a ton of ASMR-inducing videos on Youtube and these videos have helped in getting me relaxed and achieve better sleep. Thanks to these videos and relaxing audio, I get to wake up refreshed the next day.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

‘Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming’ by Stephen LaBerge and Howard Rheingold is definitely one book that I’d recommend to the community since it offers an in-depth view of lucid dreaming. This book can do wonders as it brings a whole new definition to the word ‘exploring’.

What is your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.’ It’s so disappointing that people are compromising their health for the sake of work. Hopefully enough, they’ll manage to realize the importance of their well-being and prioritize themselves.
