Matthew Gelsheimer

A resident of Lenexa, Kansas, Matthew Gelsheimer enjoys a variety of family activities. In addition to taking family vacations around the country, Matthew Gelsheimer supports numerous charities, such as the One Life child sponsorship program. He has personally supported the education of several at-risk children in Southeast Asia. A member of Westside Family Church since 2005, he is also involved with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, which organizes monthly meetings with Holocaust survivors. Other agencies he has donated to include the Tunnels to Towers Foundation (aid to first responders) and A Turning Point Foundation (self-sufficiency for families in need). Mr. Gelsheimer and his family are well-traveled, having been to the NASA Space Center, Disney World, the Ozarks, and the Grand Canyon. A highlight is their annual trip to Coaldale, Colorado, where they enjoy camping and whitewater rafting. In 2020, they visited Hawaii’s Big Island and participated in kayaking, parasailing, and snorkeling. Other destinations have included the San Diego Zoo and New Orleans. Mr. Gelsheimer is a fan of the Chevrolet Camaro and is currently driving his sixth model. He also works out five days a week. A U2 fan, he saw the band in concert at Arrowhead Stadium in 2017. Rounding out his pastimes are tennis matches with his son, collecting baseball cards, and following the Denver Broncos.

What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

I get up a 6 am in the morning. Wake up my two teenage children for school. Have a cup of coffee and turn on the news.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Bi-weekly strategic meetings with my team members where we share successful stories of how we have won new business in the sales industry we are in.

What’s one trend that excites you?

Artificial Intelligence

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

Working out at Lifetime Fitness five to six days a week, which gives me the energy that I need to be productive at my job.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t sweat the small things and dream big.

Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you on?

Ghosts are real.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

Go to church on a regular basis and join a group to do life with.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

Pray and ask God for directions.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

The one strategy that has always worked for me is to out-hustle everyone else and never give up.

What is one failure in your career,  how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

I failed a licensing test that I overcame by asking my regional leader for a chance at a second shot. And to never give up on my dream.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

I use virtual Zoom meetings to leverage my time, versus driving to appointments.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast you’ve gotten a ton of value from and why?

My favorite book I read daily is the book of Proverbs in the bible. And the value I get is having more wisdom in my daily life choices.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

Yellowstone, and I enjoyed it because of the family’s struggle to save their land that has been in the family for generations.
