What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

My typical day begins early. Each morning, I wake up with an attitude of gratitude for the blessings in my life. I prioritize what the most important things are, and then I make a plan to get those things completed. By keeping an updated schedule, it keeps me focused and on the right track. I take breaks when needed and then come back to work energized to continue working.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Bringing ideas to life requires research and planning. I try to have multiple options for success. I start out with Plan A. If that doesn’t work, I go to Plan B. If possible, I also have a Plan C. I keep a close eye on my progress and stay persistent until the idea comes to life.

What’s one trend that excites you?

One trend that excites me is the use of technology in our church services. Mini-movies, pictures, and the use of screens in general help the congregation understand the Bible better. When people don’t bring their Bibles, being able to put each verse on the screen helps the church to see and understand better. Having beautiful stage lighting creates a nice atmosphere for worship.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

One habit that helps me to be productive is to write down everything that’s important. I tend to forget things that are not written down and get off track. If it’s not on paper, it vapor. That’s my motto, and I try to remember to email myself my important thoughts and notes so I can write them down on my to-do list later and not forget.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Watch Cops more often. It brings a new level of respect and wisdom to our lives. By seeing other people get in trouble, it helps us to stay out of trouble. After watching Cops for a while, you realize that almost every person that gets arrested is on drugs or alcohol. It’s a good wake-up call to avoid situations that lead to trouble.

Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you on?

God doesn’t just give to us. He gives through us. The Lord works through people to do His work. We should all make ourselves available to God and also keep Him first in our lives. This life is simply a test that will determine how and where we will spend eternity.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

Read the Bible and go to church. If every person would read a chapter a day, it would help them to have a greater appreciation for life and our purpose. God has a plan and a purpose for each of us, and when we are in that plan, we have greater peace, joy, and overall happiness. By staying involved in church, we experience community and fellowship. We can pray for and encourage one another. It’s also great to have a safe place that we can actively invite others to be a part of.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

When I feel overwhelmed or unfocused, I take a nap. I typically stay up late and get up early, so taking a nap fills in the gap of missing sleep. When you wake up from a good nap, you feel focused again and can really get a lot done.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

One strategy that has helped me to grow my business is to continue things that work well and stop things that don’t. As a home builder as my primary source of income, some house plans sell quickly and others don’t. Some locations work well, and others don’t. When I figure out a strategy that works, I do my best to repeat it while constantly looking for ways to improve it. We always strive for excellence

What is one failure in your career,  how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

One failure in my career was the idea that I had to be like somebody else. I tried to copy the styles of other people. It was a great day in my life when I learned to be myself. I believe that I am the most successful when I do what I love and do it in the way that works best for me even if it doesn’t necessarily work for others.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Microsoft Word has been one of the greatest tools for me. Being able to store information quickly, create files, and organize everything. From preaching sermons to putting together estimates for new homes to writing this article, Microsoft Word is great to help me be productive.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast you’ve gotten a ton of value from and why?

My favorite book is the Bible. As a pastor and a student of the Word, the Bible brings life into perspective in so many ways. I recommend it to everybody.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

I like the movie A Bronx Tale. For some reason, Mafia movies always catch my attention. I would never do the things that they did, but it’s entertaining to watch. On a spiritual level, I really enjoy The Chosen series. It brings a deeper understanding of the events that took place in the Bible.
