Having a meaningful impact on a company can be difficult. There is a lot of red tape that one person has to cross in a company in order to make a difference. However, Robert Butchike is an individual that doesn’t let bureaucracy stop him from completing his mission. He is a passionate individual who believes that one should practice empathy in the workplace. He is currently the human resources manager at JATEC and firmly believes in the power of compassion when it comes to positively impacting a company. Fortunately, Robert has the credentials to back up the work that he hopes to accomplish.
Though Robert initially started out his career as a law enforcement professional, he would carry his empathy over into human resources in time. He believes in looking out for his fellow man and has used this principle to help him accomplish many goals while maintaining the human resources manager position. He has impacted many lives in his community while studying law enforcement years ago and continues to make positive impressions on all of those that he meets. He continues to traverse the corporate world in a professional manner and brings incredible ideas to the table that will most certainly change his company for the better.
Where did the idea for JATEC come from?
I always liked the idea of helping people. It is in my very nature to go out of my way to ensure that people are set up for success. Fortunately, JATEC had an opening that would allow me to practice my empathy skills. I love what I do here at our company. I hope that my impact can help people achieve their goals inside and outside the company.
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
I am normally up at 5 a.m. every day. I work out and read the news before getting started. I always meditate before beginning my workday. It helps me get into the right groove of things and prepare for the tasks ahead of me.
How do you bring ideas to life?
I always make sure to write down every idea that I get. Writing things down helps me bring them to life. It gives me structure and a chance to think through the creative process.
What’s one trend that excites you?
Companies are becoming more empathetic. They are realizing the importance of the employee. This truly makes me happy.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
I guard my thoughts very closely. I always make sure to work through the negative thoughts that I have each day.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self that it is alright to explore the world around me. I was very guarded as a young man.

I believe that most people are inherently good.

I take time to get to know all of the employees that work in our business.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
I had a career crisis years ago. However, I asked myself what I truly wanted in life. That answer led me to where I am today.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
The mobile app business is growing fast. I would recommend in app development. I would suggest that someone should make an app that helps human resources manager with their daily tasks.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
I took some time to visit the beach. It was absolutely worth it. I work an incredible amount of hours during the week. This allowed me to disconnect and recharge my social batteries. It was the best $100 I have spent recently.
What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?
I recommend Cold Turkey. It is an app that helps you block applications on your computer. It helps me stay focused without having to worry about distractions.
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. This book has changed my life, and I recommend that everyone read it.
