Where did the idea for DRN Dental, PLLC come from?

I contract out my dental services as an independent contractor through my business DRN Dental, PLLC. This way, I can concentrate on performing dentistry and having to deal less with the administrative side. I look for companies that align with my values in offering patients high quality dental services while making it affordable.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I wake up by 6am. I read a daily Bible verse and pray. I then go through and answer my emails. When my kids wake up, we play with them and entertain them for awhile. We eat breakfast together as a family and get them ready for school. We also find joy in taking care of our adorable 3 Maltese dogs.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Ideas are brought to life by me discussing them with my wife. She is my inspiration and helps me put things into motion.

What’s one trend that excites you?

Dentistry is getting very technologically advanced. I especially enjoy the 3-D x-ray imaging systems that we have that allow us to visualize the entire mouth and dentition in three dimensions. This allows for much better diagnosis and more accurate treatment planning.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I am a motivated self-starter. I work hard and am dedicated to get things done. I usually don’t give up until I achieve my goals. One of my goals has been to offer quality services at an affordable price. I have achieved this goal. I learned this from aligning with dental offices that also value top quality dental services at an affordable price. This allows for tremendous word of mouth referrals from highly satisfied patients.

What advice would you give your younger self?

My advice would be to not worry too much about the things that you cannot control. Just keep working hard and doing what you enjoy and everything will always work out.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on?

I truly believe that Success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

I try to be self-sufficient in all areas. You can only rely on others for so much but at the end of the day it still all falls on you.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

I contract out my services and align myself with companies that offer high quality dental services while making it very affordable. This allows for tremendous word of mouth referrals. Once patients are happy with your services and realize that they are also saving money, they spread the news like wildfire.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

The hardest part about dentistry is when things don’t go as expected. Sometimes I do a procedure and feel really good about it, but for a variety of reasons, the outcome wasn’t what we expected. We have to then adapt and formulate new treatment options for the patient. This in turn extends their treatment time and requires patience from everyone.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Most complaints that come from patients are about the bad taste of dental products and about the process of mouth-numbing, specifically, the use of injections to achieve numbness. Any business that can solve either of these problems would be successful.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

For Christmas, I bought both of my kids a $100 gift card from stockpile. My son chose to invest his money in Microsoft since he likes Minecraft. My daughter chose to invest her money in Disney since she likes Mickey Mouse. This helps us start the conversation on saving money and investing money. I think being able to teach your children at an early age the importance of saving money and investing money is really important.
