What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

I’ll be honest—I’m not a morning person. But I still try to get up before 7 on workdays. Like a lot of people, I start my day with coffee, and I drink way too much of it. I’ll have a cup or two while getting ready, and sometimes I’ll grab a third for the road. If I’m up early enough, I’ll squeeze in a quick workout, but most days, I just exercise after work. It’s about a 20-minute drive to the office in Sacramento. I usually start my day by answering client emails and calls, then move on to prepping and analyzing case files. I jot down my findings and add notes for the attorney I work with. I also sit in on team meetings with partners and clients, but most of the day, I’m working on my own. After I get home, I try to head out for a run as soon as I can. Sometimes, I’ll hit the gym and lift weights, but lately, I’ve been into long-distance runs on the bike trails.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I bring ideas to life by staying in touch with my team and making sure I really understand the goal. I always run my ideas by the attorneys and clients I work with to make sure we’re on the same page. It could be about making client service better, simplifying processes, or coming up with a new legal strategy.

What’s one trend that excites you?

I’m really into what I’d call “fitness networking.” Stuff like run clubs, skiing groups, and other active hobbies that clients and attorneys do together outside of work. It’s a fun way to build relationships and even bring in new clients. Plus, it ties into remote work, where you can work from home and still have time for hobbies.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

I try to multitask in a way that keeps me productive without burning out. For me, that means focusing on a few big tasks at a time and not letting the little stuff pile up. I like having a routine, breaking things into smaller goals, and checking them off as I go.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I’d tell my younger self to always keep learning and improving. No matter how good you think you are, there’s always room to grow and even the best never stop learning.

Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you on?

I think success isn’t just about money, status, or fancy things. To me, real success is about making a positive impact on the world and the people around you. It’s also about helping others succeed.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

I’d tell everyone to travel when they’re young if they can. I was lucky enough to travel to a bunch of countries in Europe after graduating from the University of Arizona and again after finishing grad school at Sacramento State. It really opened my eyes and gave me a better understanding of how the world works.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

I think staying positive is key, no matter what. When I feel overwhelmed, I try to step back and look at things from a different angle. It helps me refocus and tackle things with a clearer head.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

One big strategy for me has been networking—like, really putting effort into it. I’ve made it a core part of my career. By building a diverse and genuine network, I’ve gotten access to unique opportunities, fresh perspectives, and a lot of support. For me, networking isn’t just about meeting people; it’s about building trust, adding value, and creating relationships that help everyone grow.

What is one failure in your career,  how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

I think my biggest challenge was starting out in this profession without knowing much and having to learn fast. If you come in overconfident, you might be too afraid to ask for help, and that can set you back. Small tasks, if not done right, can snowball into bigger problems. I learned to ask for help when I needed it and to stay humble.

What is one business idea you’re willing to give away to our readers?

One idea I’d share is a subscription-based legal platform for small businesses and entrepreneurs. A lot of people, especially entrepreneurs, struggle with legal stuff like contracts and compliance. This platform could offer affordable access to legal templates, educational content, and a Q&A forum for basic legal advice.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

One tool I rely on a lot is Clio. It helps me with case management, time tracking, and organizing client documents. For example, during litigation cases, I use it to keep track of client details, case notes, and deadlines. It also helps me log billable hours for tasks like drafting documents. I connect it with tools like Outlook and Google Calendar to keep everything running smoothly.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast you’ve gotten a ton of value from and why?

Lately, I’ve been getting more into stock trading, and one book I’ve found really helpful is The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. It’s been a great resource for learning about investing and building financial knowledge.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

I’ve been hooked on Breaking Bad again. I’ve watched it before, but I’m rewatching it just for fun. It’s such a gripping story with amazing character development, and it’s just as good the second time around.
