A Marshall University graduate, Joe Pat Roop gained early experience through a Merrill Lynch internship in Huntington, West Virginia. Subsequently taking on responsibilities with Prudential in Charlotte as registered representative, he completed Series 7 qualifications. Joe Pat Roop’s role with MassMutual in the late 1980s encompassed retirement income planning and disability insurance.

What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?
Typically, I get up and see my son out to school and have a cup of coffee. Next, I will take a shower and drive in to work. On my drive into work, I will typically listen to Brendon Burchard. He has an app called GrowthDay that focuses on setting one’s daily mindset that helps get your day going. Some days, when times permits, I listen to the podcast The Wright Report by Bryan Dean Wright. He is an ex-CIA officer that gives a briefing on current economic and current worldly events.
How do you bring ideas to life?
We have a weekly strategic meeting with our managers and advisors regarding the business. And I have different business resources internal to the company that I will have private chats with as well.
What’s one trend that excites you?
Artificial intelligence.
What is one habit that helps you be productive?
Listening to Brendon Burchard and GrowthDay every day. My other habit is to listen to The Ed Mylett Show at least twice a week.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Have children and get married sooner rather than later.
Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you on?
Big Foot is real.
What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?
Go to church on a consistent, regular basis.
When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?
I will journal/write down thoughts and ideas.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?
Never stop marketing.
What is one failure in your career, how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?
Going into business with a friend when I was too young and had no money. I got really broke, hit rock bottom, and left the business.
What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?
Our business runs on a customer relations management software called Wealthbox.

Napoleon Hill – Think and Grow Rich and Outwitting the Devil.
What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?
Landman – with Billy Bob Thorton, and I won’t spoil the surprise.
