What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

Rise early, work out, have a good breakfast, thank God for the day, and get to work or do what I have decided to do on a weekend. I always want to get started early because sleeping too late makes the day get away from you. Starting the day with breakfast also makes you more productive and fuel for your body is important. Working out keeps your body and mind moving in the right direction and thanking God makes you grateful.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Think of them. Write them down and put them down, go back and re-read them for a second look, then modify or keep and implement them. Going back to an initial thought at a later time gives you time to reflect on it and most times make it better. The only way you can get from point A to point B is to focus on how to get there.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The use of AI in helping resolve the worst sicknesses that plague humans, like cancer. Technology should be used to enhance humanity, not hurt it. Using it in wars is not the way it should be used. Using it for good or to make you think about numerous points to any issue is the most important way to use it.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

Making lists of important, what can wait, and what could be done today. I like to see what I have in front of me every day so that I can prioritize how I am going to use my time. In addition, it lessens anxiety because you know what you have to do and you can get it done in an orderly fashion without worrying about forgetting anything.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Know that change is inevitable; the only way to address it is to learn how to handle it and how to react to it in a positive way. Rejecting change is because most people want to be familiar with everything in their lives, which is understandable. However, change is the only thing you can count on, so learning how to embrace it is more productive and manageable.

Tell us something you believe that almost nobody agrees with you on.

All lawyers are NOT bad! Most people think that lawyers are worse than used car salesmen (not to say used car salesmen are bad too). A lot of people have bad experiences with lawyers because they are paying for “brain power” and “knowledge” and not buying a pen for $10 at a store. My law school friends are some of the best, most talented people I know. I think it comes from a lot of lawyers being arrogant in their knowledge, and that is unnerving to the average person.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

Take five minutes a day to sit in silence. By sitting in silence, you let your mind rest, you rejuvenate your thinking. It helps with focus and can actually limit anxiety as well. It is a good practice that everyone should try.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

Go to the beach and sit by the ocean and look at its majestic view. It grounds me to take on challenges and focus on what is truly important. Looking at the vast ocean, I realize that there is a bigger purpose, being which I call God. Knowing that the universe has purpose larger than what is overwhelming me helps me feel calm and back to focus.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

Know that in order to succeed, you must persevere and continue. Most people quit, which is why they do not succeed. Hard work and perseverance is key to success. If you look at the most successful people in the world, you can see that they just kept going, regardless of stumbling blocks or adversity. This is the key to navigating life’s challenges, and it’s always the challenges that cause most people to stop or give up. I do not look life that way.

What is one failure in your career, how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

I trusted a business partner and client who were not trustworthy. Everyone is not honest or worth your trust. Be mindful, always, and be suspect of others’ motives regardless of what they say; watch what they do, as that is what reveals the truth. Most people are out for themselves, so you have to dig in on your morals and positions and if they don’t want that, move on.

What is one business idea you’re willing to give away to our readers?

ICU baby blanket, which assists with a colic baby. It was designed by my husband and works to soothe a baby who has colic, helps the parents stay sane, and makes the dad part of the soothing process. It should be part of every parent’s box of baby items, as you never know if your baby will have colic and if it does, you need that kind of assistance.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Microsoft Word assists me in writing, drafting, and putting ideas on paper. Also, AI helps evaluate numerous ideas, but it has to be reviewed, as sometimes it’s just wrong. AI gives you a vast amount of information that you can consider, evaluate, and determine if it’s useful or not.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

Notebooks in which I put things I do every day, document what has been done, needs to be done, and can be done. I find that keeping notes of what you do (and because lawyers bill by the hour, documenting each hour of work and what was done) helps with focus and lets you move to other things, knowing that you wrote down what was done, so if you have to review it or look at it months later, you can confirm it.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast you’ve gotten a ton of value from and why?

Joel Olsen’s podcasts, as they are uplifting and bring out issues that sometimes we forget, including how God works in all ways. He always puts Bible studies in a modern, practical way that is understandable and useful in your life.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

“The Madison.” It’s about a 65-year-old woman who is top of society in New York who loses her husband of 40 years to an unexpected plane accident and how she tries to manage her life and her children without him. It makes me appreciate everything I have— my life, my husband, and children—and recognize how very fragile life is. It helps when something goes wrong and to put it into perspective.
