Alexandru Burducea

Anesthesiologist

Plan ahead. Follow your dream. Work very hard to fulfill that dream. Most important be very organized and keep to your plan.

As a native-born Romanian, Dr. Alexandru Burducea came to the U.S. at a very young age. He is meticulous and driven. As an Anesthesiologist and Pain Management doctor, he is passionate about his profession and strives to be the best in his field. He has been serving patients in the New York metro area for over 15 years.

Alexandru Burducea demonstrated that powerful drive when he arrived in the United States as a freshman in high school. Rather than high school being a four-year process as most students require, he graduated within two years. He went on to the State University of New York at Stony Brook, NY for his bachelor’s in Biochemistry and became a Doctor of Osteopathy in 2003. He did a Transitional Internship at the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Long Beach Medical Center, NY. By 2004 He had his Anesthesia Residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. and in 2007 he had his Pain Management Fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

In 2008 Alex Burducea was hired at Mount Sinai Medical Center as an attending physician. He was promoted to Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management where he remained until 2016 when he launched his own practice for Anesthesiology and pain management.

Where did the idea for your company come from?

I use my name so that anyone looking for an anesthesiologist can find me by simply using my name. My biggest focus and attention is geared towards the highest quality of care and safety. Safety is very important in Anesthesiology and Pain Management.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I am very organized. I sometimes have to be at the office. At other times I collaborate with other doctors. Safety is of the utmost importance in our work. Where ever I am providing my services, I am there ahead of time to make sure I set up my equipment. I make sure that the patient plan is the best solution for the individual. If I am at the office, I am addressing pain management. Sometimes I use physical therapy, sometimes I use injections, it depends on each individual’s requirements. Many nights I am at my office until six or seven at night. When I leave the office, I try to work out for at least 45 minutes. I share the evening with my family. I catch up on my reading before I sleep.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I focus on things that can make a difference. I believe in planning before executing. It is all about planning and getting organized before you do anything. If it is a good idea then we fulfill the plans.

What’s one trend that excites you?

I stay on top of the latest treatments and technology for Anesthesiology. I prefer injections for all types of pain, especially back pain or cancer. I get excited about new innovations in pain management. For example, Percutaneous Discectomy. It is a new procedure. Instead of going through major disc surgery, there is a small incision made in the spine. A camera is used to view the herniated disc so the repairs can be made. It is much less invasive, and it expedites recovery. I have been training for robotics and technology. I attend conferences and I stay informed on new technology. These are the trends that excite me.

What advice would you give your younger self?

One thing that I would advise my younger self is to work very hard and strive to be your best every day. I try to teach my children the same thing. The other thing I would advise is to use your own discernment when listening to people. Not everything that you hear is truthful.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

When I first came to America from Romania, I started school as a freshman in high school. I told everyone that I would finish high school in three years rather than four. They all told me I could not do it. So instead, I finished my four-year program in two years instead.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

I would tell everyone to plan ahead. Follow your dream. Work very hard to fulfill that dream. Most important be very organized and keep to your plan.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

I am a believer in being passionate in your work. Give the highest quality of patient care. Be safe, caring and patient. They will recognize and appreciate it. Treat each person as though they are your family.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

We got to a point many years ago when we no longer had enough office space. We were not very organized. We did not have enough rooms for our patients. There were delays and complaints. I listen to my patients when they were unhappy. We worked hard and I took their advice and we resolved the issues.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

I believe there should be an app that will provide you with wait time information at any ER/Urgent Care Clinic so you can determine the best time and place to go to around your area. This could be updated by GPS location tracking or maintained by the staff at the practice.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I believe there should be an app that will provide you with wait time information at any ER/Urgent Care Clinic so you can determine the best time and place to go to around your area. This could be updated by GPS location tracking or maintained by the staff at the practice.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?

The best software that I use is for electronic medical records or EMR systems. It is called In-synch. It is the best system that keeps the office organized. It keeps my patient’s medical records accurate. It makes me feel good to know that my office and records are in order when I leave the office every day. It makes me very happy.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The Bible. It makes everyone more loving and honest. The other book I would recommend is Women are from Venus Men are from Mars. This increases your understanding of how women think. I believe anyone who reads this can become a better husband and father.

What is your favorite quote?

We should study, study and study some more. By Lennon It reminded me growing up that, no matter how much you read or how much you study there is always more that you can learn.

Key Learnings:

• If patients are happy with the quality of care they will return.
• Treat each person as though they are your family.
• Use your own discernment when listening to people.
• It is all about planning and getting organized before you do anything.
