Where did the idea for your company come from?
My accountant actually referred me to this career path some time ago. Once I looked into commercial real estate and began to get started, I realized that this was really for me. And I am still here, going strong. What a great suggestion that turned out to be!
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
Once I get started, I check on all of my existing properties and clients, I then focus on finding new business. I am always on the lookout, scouting for new properties, and potential clients.
How do you bring ideas to life?
I definitely do my research first and I also have the other agents to toss ideas around with too. In the end, I look at everything and decide if I should go forward. If so, I will implement the new business ideas.
What’s one trend that excites you?
I think it is great that more people of retirement age are buying properties for an extra income stream. That is a very smart decision and will last a long time as it provides opportunity for the buyer’s future income. Of course, we do get a commission, but the buyer will benefit from the long term income earnings from renting the property out.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
Perseverance! I make sure that I stay on top of all my client’s needs and I am confident that I will find them exactly what they are looking for.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to start sooner! This is such a great career and great industry that I really wish I had found this sooner.
Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.
When I decided to go into commercial real estate, I could see that some people were not as excited as I was. Well, as you can see, things worked and I am just thrilled. So, be sure to keep your goal always in sight.
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
One thing that I do and recommend you do is to check your work often. The paperwork is endless and one small error can really slow things down or force you to start over. So, check, check, and check again that the forms are filled out correctly. This will keep you moving forward.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?
Well, referrals are great, but I still pound the pavement. I will go door to door and introduce myself as well as make calls or even some snail mail. You want people to remember you when they need an Agent.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
I think we have all run into bumps along the way at work. Trying to match the perfect property with the right buyer is my ultimate focus, and occasionally, if I can’t I will regroup and try a fresh angle. This goes back to perseverance.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
Don’t dilly dally! As I have indicated that I wish I had started earlier in life, I highly recommend Commercial Real Estate as a solid career. I would suggest to those that are interested in commercial real estate to get their real estate license and find a great Broker to work under.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
Last month, I took a potential client out for lunch. This was someone who was about to walk away from a deal based on emotion. The lunch gave us the chance to talk things through and build a professional relationship, and it helped me better understand his thought process. If it weren’t for that $100 lunch, I can guarantee that deal would have fallen through.
What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?
My calendar and my contact list are of the utmost importance to me. I cannot afford to lose any of that information, as it is crucial to my business. It is my lifeline and must be guarded!
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure by Grant Cardone. This book really helps me with all aspects of my life and work. I believe it can help other people gain focus too.
What is your favorite quote?
“Get err done” is my favorite saying, but I don’t think it is a real quote. I do not like to waste time, so this is appropriate for me. Every day I get up ready to get going!
