Filip Boksa

When you’re younger you’ve yet to experience certain things which makes taking a risk easier. As you grow, you make more mistakes and you learn things which sometimes can prevent you from taking a risk again.

Filip Boksa is the CEO and Co-Founder of BookingKoala as well as numerous other successful companies. From a small investment of $6,000 he has created not one but several multi-million dollar businesses. King of Maids was his first venture that connected customers with maids to clean their homes via a custom online booking form.

In a span of three years he took that $6,000 and grew King of Maids to over $5,000,000 as well as started other companies along the way. Today he is most known for BookingKoala, a platform, which focuses on helping service type businesses grow efficiently.

Where did the idea for BookingKoala come from?

My favorite company is MailChimp. I love the branding because the moment I was introduced to them, I never forgot them and because of their branding I would never leave them. I wanted to come up with something identical in our industry, and that is how I came up with BookingKoala for our brand.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I don’t have a set schedule anymore. I wake up naturally without an alarm clock and I go to sleep whenever I’m done. Don’t fall for the trap that you have to wake up at 5am to be successful. Figure out what works for you. To be productive, I have a list of all my tasks. I start with the ones that make the biggest impact first and I never push a task till next day. If it is important, it gets done that day.

How do you bring ideas to life?

If I think it’s a good idea I just make it happen. If it fails, I learn from them and move on. The more stuff you do the more you learn. My biggest successes came from some of my biggest mistakes and failures.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The internet. It opened up a lot of opportunities for everyone. Because of the internet you can do anything.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

Personally, it is going to the gym and eating healthy. When I eat right, I feel great and when I go to the gym I also feel a lot more productive.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t ever stop taking risks. Anyone who’s ever achieved something in life took a risk. When you’re younger you’ve yet to experience certain things which makes taking a risk easier. As you grow, you make more mistakes and you learn things which sometimes can prevent you from taking a risk again.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

I love basketball and to me Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player to ever play the game.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

I get up and work every single day. If you want to achieve your goals, you need to get up and put in the work every single day.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

Great content. Our mission is to help people grow their businesses. Those that don’t have any money come to BookingKoala and start with the Forever Free plan. Later as they start to grow they upgrade and get charged per worker. Our content helps them grow and the faster they grow, the faster we grow. It is a win-win for both the customer and us.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

Failures are part of the process. You fail almost every single day at something whether big or small and sometimes even without realizing that you failed. Overcoming those failures are supposed to be second nature. You’re not supposed to let them knock you down. It should be as simple as I failed, now we move onto the next thing without dwelling over it.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

If you can figure out how to build a refrigerator that predicts what you’d want to eat and have it pull it up for you the moment you open the door, you will be a rich person. Imagine the times you’ve went to grab something to eat, didn’t find anything you wanted, left and came back 2 minutes later only to repeat the process 5 more times.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I bought some motivational quote posters for our office. It is not only motivating to the folks that work there but every time I read a quote, it puts me in a better mood.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?

BookingKoala hands down. BookingKoala was originally the software we created for my first company King of Maids. The software helped us reduce staffing from 6 to 3, saving us over $100,000 annually and it also helped free up my time completely after some procedures were put in place. Later we re-designed it in order to help others use it. Today it changed thousands of lives.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The first step to success is training your mindset. Without a positive mindset, you will fail. A great and fun read for anyone is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

What is your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is by Mark Zuckerberg – “The biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”
