Iyer’s professional career has been shaped in part by a persistent intellectual curiosity and a detail-oriented mindset, although these qualities were more than evident long before the online marketing and technical development expert joined Quick Link Marketing as an online partner. Iyer’s inquisitiveness and attention to detail enabled him to thrive throughout his academic career, including as a student at both Grossmont College and San Diego State University. It was at San Diego State University that Iyer earned his bachelor’s degree in public administration and urban development.
Despite the busy professional schedule demanded by his role with Quick Link Marketing, Iyer devotes a great deal of his time to community service efforts and organizations. Iyer regularly takes part in cleanup efforts in local parks and also provides support to global humanitarian crises, including, for example, his sponsorship of a child overseas and his regular contributions to ongoing Haiti relief efforts.
Where did the idea for Quick Link Marketing come from?
Quick Link Marketing’s core mission is connecting firms in need of specialized marketing solutions with lead generation companies capable of providing such solutions. The idea for the company came out of the simple recognition of a pressing need for such a service — along with the glaring lack of its availability in the marketplace.
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
My day-to-day responsibilities primarily involve client interfacing, technical development, and, of course, marketing, so I typically try to orient my schedule in the most optimal way for productivity purposes. In most cases, this requires that I devote the first part of my day to client interfacing, which then allows me to carry out my other responsibilities with the needs of the client clearly in mind for the remainder of my day.
How do you bring ideas to life?
Communication, in my view at least, is the key to bringing any idea to life. The best ideas are the product of multiple viewpoints gained through robust communication efforts concerning a particular idea.
What’s one trend that really excites you?
I’m excited about the increasingly specific marketing analytics available to us, as this allows us to really refine our approach with the goal of achieving the best possible results for our clients.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
I’ve always been very inquisitive, and posing lots of questions to all kinds of people has allowed me to see just how varied our perceptions can be from one person to the next.
What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?
I’d define a bad job as one that affords little opportunity to learn something useful. Since I’ve gained valuable insight from every job I’ve held, I can’t honestly say that I’ve ever experienced anything resembling a “bad job.”
If you were to start again, what would you do differently?
To quote the sentiment of a particularly memorable character from True Grit, “I do not entertain hypotheticals — the world as it is, is vexing enough.” In all seriousness, I do believe in evaluating past decisions for the sake of future improvement, but I cannot say that I regret any decisions I’ve made over the course of my professional career.
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
It’s important to understand that communication is both a talent and a skill, and entrepreneurship requires that this particular skill is consistently refined over time.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.
Advanced techniques in data collection and analysis have allowed us to develop very precise strategies for growth, and this level of precision reduces risk while enhancing the strategy’s likelihood of efficacy.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
Although I’ve had experiences that some might refer to as a failure, I’ve never personally viewed these experiences as anything other than an opportunity to overcome a challenge or setback while also learning something valuable for the future.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
Technological innovation has made it so much easier to make connections, which is why some of the most successful tech companies — including Quick Link Marketing — have focused on creating products and services designed to foster valuable connections between parties. In our case, we connect lead-generation companies with firms looking for specific marketing solutions, which is a service benefiting both parties. I believe that this model can be easily applied in any number of industries.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
There’s a local tavern that hosts a karaoke night once a week, so I invited my colleagues out and offered to cover the tab for anyone who performed at least two songs. It was a lot of fun and proved to be a great — and relatively inexpensive — team-building activity.
What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?
We use so many different web services and software programs, and while I value each and every one, my personal favorite is the data analytics program that enables such a great deal of precision in our approach.
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
Although it might not be the first book an entrepreneur would consider turning to for guidance, I believe Stephen King’s “On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft” offers a lot of practical advice entrepreneurs can apply to their efforts.
Do you have any exciting new business ventures to share?
Yes! I am pleased to announce that I will be joining Nashvox as a minority owner and consultant. I look forward to getting to know the company and the city of Nashville better as we begin our transition to a post-pandemic world.
