Where did the idea for Love With Liana come from?
When I think back to the beginning of Love With Liana®, I see a younger version of me who was still struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and an overall lack of self-worth and self-love. I was relentlessly working on loving myself for three years before starting Love With Liana® and I truly believe this was the missing piece in my life, now giving me much purpose and happiness.
Back in 2020, just months before the pandemic hit the world, I learned of a coaching certification through The Adult Chair® model: a simple psychology, grounded spirituality model for healthy living, that I was studying for the entire two years prior. At the time of the coaching certification announcement, I was not confident in myself nor in my ability to start a business and invest in myself. So I first did nothing about it.
Then the pandemic happened. My 9-5 office job went remote and I began to fear for my life. I had a spiritual awakening: life is short and I don’t want to spend any more time working for someone else that could determine my health and wellbeing (would it be safe when we return to the office); I wanted to work for myself and control my own future and my own destiny. So I talked to my husband and he encouraged me to take out a loan to pay for my first coaching certification through The Adult Chair® model. That was when Love With Liana® was born.
Since then, I have coached over 50 people in learning how to love themselves and live a life of greater self-worth. I have launched a podcast of over 50 episodes. I have amassed a combined 6,500+ followers on TikTok and Instagram where I continue to make videos and posts all about helping people heal and transform their lives. I have rebuilt my sense of self, increased my confidence, and now finally unconditionally love myself. To be featured in this article and others has also been my greatest achievement. I believe all of this (and more coming in 2023–like a retreat to Bali!) furthers my mission: to build a world where people have high self-worth and unconditionally love themselves. I am humbled and honored to serve the world in this way!
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
I am a huge believer in having a morning and evening routine. I feel that this improves my quality of life because it allows me to sleep better, feel better, and be more productive. We are nothing without a work-life balance so I prioritize that over everything.
A typical day for me looks like waking up next to my husband with one or both of my cats laying on me after a night of peaceful sleep. I have my lamp turn on at 9:30AM but I’m usually awake by 8AM, so I allow my eyes some time to adjust to the morning light. My iPhone has Down Time and Do Not Disturb enabled until 9AM when I officially start my work day. This allows me to check only the notifications I want to check instead of being bombarded by them at the first morning glance. I find myself on social media where I’m writing a beautiful Instagram caption for one of my upcoming posts that day as a way for me to reflect on my life as I look to connect more with my audience. This process takes about 15 minutes, and then I am ready to actually get out of bed. I get dressed, and then I make my way to the bathroom so that I can put on makeup and brush my teeth. This part is among my favorite parts of the day because with my makeup, I get to express myself creatively along with my outfit and jewelry of choice which always makes me smile.
When the day finally reaches its end, I have my iPhone again turn on Do Not Disturb and Down Time at 9PM so that I can be less involved with my phone than if I otherwise were to not. I have my lights automatically turn to red in the living room and in my bedroom so that I am not looking at bright lights before sleep, and this signals me to turn off the TV or my computer or whatever I am doing so that I may officially start to wind down. I walk myself into my bedroom and grab my pajamas that I bring into the bathroom so that I may take a hot shower. Depending on if it is a wash day or not for my hair, I will either shower quickly or a bit slower and then proceed to style my hair. I style my hair in such a way so that when I sleep on it by 10/10:30PM, it will still look nice for the next day. I wash my face and apply my toner, serums, and face cream to my face before I brush my teeth, and then I am ready to climb into bed. Sometimes my husband and I watch a show in bed on my iPad, and other times I read, or watch some funny TikToks to officially check out of the day that I had. Within a half hour to an hour, I am ready to fall completely asleep to some gentle nature sounds I put on my Google Home, so I can start all over the next day.
My morning and evening routines may feel simple, and that’s because they are. I used to pressure myself into meditating and journaling in the morning or at bedtime which hindered my productivity due to the pressure I was putting on myself. I may introduce those habits back into my days again in the future, but I want to ensure that comes from a place of self-compassion and not self-punishment. This is what works for me and my natural circadian rhythms, and I find that through data tracked from my Ōura Ring, this works wonders for my sleep and overall readiness scores.
How do you bring ideas to life?
Ideas come through me like a divine download, so when I feel compelled to do something, I just do it. A divine download in this context is like another voice inside my head that comes through me and guides me to taking that next step. Call it the “voice of god” or “one’s intuition”, but I truly feel as though this is my higher self voice coming through me when I am the most connected to myself and spirit.
The only time I am ever indecisive about something is when I am worrying about what others will think about my particular idea or execution of said idea. When I listen to my higher self and only my higher self, the execution of my ideas are easy. I too often worry about what others will think of me, so the idea gets put to the backburner and I am left feeling in a lot of distress. I do my best to follow only my inner guidance and the guidance of trusted people in my life who support my higher self which makes me feel my best.
What’s one trend that excites you?
I love that working on yourself has become “trendy” because then more people will face their traumas and heal from them. This will make for a more present and loving world.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
I do my best to do a little bit of work on my business per day at minimum. Depending on my schedule, that can look like a few hours of work, or just 20 minutes. I love tracking things in Notion, but being a project manager at heart, I keep most of the things in my head and I go to each part when I feel called to do so, much like how I execute on my ideas.
What advice would you give your younger self?
To my Little Liana,
Don’t worry so much about what other people think of you. I know your biggest core wound is that you don’t feel like you’re enough or worthy, but one day you will feel so enough and so worthy that all of your past pain will wash away. You don’t need the approval of others in order to feel good about yourself. You can self-validate and acknowledge your own divine guidance as the next “right” thing.
Your body is your home, and it is where you live no matter where your body physically is. Treat it with love and kindness and you will see that you are so much more than a body and what you look like.
If you want to do something, go and do it. Have fun and don’t be so serious all the time. Your achiever mindset is not always right. You can in fact take a break and rest. It is okay. You are okay.
Mom and Dad only did the best they could with what they had at the time. You will eventually grow to understand them without constantly needing their approval. You are strong and independent and don’t need them as much as you yearn for.
Your friends will come and go, and that is okay. In the words of Grandma, “you only need one best friend in life”. Trust that.
One day you’ll know true love and it will feel so powerful in your heart like you’ve never felt it before–but this time, it will never leave you. People won’t understand your love and it will hurt, but you will always know your truth. Always trust that you know what’s best for you. Always.
Money feels abundant in your life and that’s because it is. There’s always enough money to support you in what you want. Don’t worry about money, it will only lead to more stress.
You are beautiful, enough, worthy, and whole just as you are. Never forget that.
Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.
That therapy is the only service needed to support your mental health journey. Therapy has been the initial most important stepping stone of my personal growth journey, but what really sealed the deal in terms of me feeling better about myself as a whole has been through coaching. Coaching uses different modalities than traditional therapy (such as Neuro Linguistic Programming, Emotional Freedom Techniques, TIME Techniques™, and more that I am now master certified in) that provide a more holistic approach to healing. I believe therapy and coaching work even better together because a person heals best with clinical and holistic approaches. So my best advice to someone who has been through trauma and/or suffers with anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions, to not stop at therapy or medication for their treatment. When a person integrates these additional coaching modalities into their lives, they will see lasting improvements and transformation. I know this because this was my path and I am living proof of its success.
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
I repeatedly say to myself this following affirmation:
“I am enough simply because I am. I am worthy of this life simply by being in it. I am so, so loved just because I exist, just because I am here on this earth. There’s nothing I need to do, nothing I need to be in order to be worthy of anything that I desire. My worth is innate. This is truth”.
This helps me overcome my fear of showing up in the world, my self-doubt, and my lack of confidence. Once I remember who I really am, I am able to do anything I set my mind to in my business and in my life.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?
Showing up fully and authentically on TikTok and Instagram has helped me lead by example and connect with people to best support them on their journey. I believe video is the best medium because you get to connect with all people’s representational systems all at once.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
I was deciding on whether or not to make another investment into myself and into my business and I made my biggest failure to date: not trusting my instincts when they were telling me what to do. I ended up investing in that program only to feel complete unalignment. I luckily was able to drop out of the program and receive an over 90% refund, but that is time, money, and energy I will never get back. I am fortunate to have worked with another coach on a different program and was able to get a lot more out of that program than the original one.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
Showcase your talents and put yourself out there. I can guarantee you that there are people who will enjoy your gifts and want to pay you for it.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
I recently purchased a TikTok growth course for $100 and it was absolutely, hands down the best $100 I’ve ever spent. I have learned so much about TikTok in how to best create content as well as how to structure my brand on the platform. I truly believe TikTok is the best place for organic growth right now and it has the potential to change people’s lives. I totally recommend that everyone gets on the platform to not only learn, laugh, and cry, but to create content in pursuit of their passions and dreams. One day, this version of yourself will shine to hundreds of thousands of people and you will thank yourself for taking that first step.
What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?
I love using Notion for all of the project management aspects of my business. I can take notes and section off particular areas of my business to keep track of everything. This is a time saver because I don’t then need to utilize multiple apps to track my progress. It is also fully customizable, and I don’t believe I’ve even unlocked its full potential. I highly recommend it!
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
Please read The Alchemist. I read it before my senior year of high school and again with my husband. It is one of those books that captures so much in such a simple way that when you come back to it, you are greatly influenced.
What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote is from the movie, Into the Wild, where at the end, the main character Christopher McCandless learns that “Happiness is only real when shared.” This quote helps me remember that even in my darkest moments when I feel most alone, I can reach out to someone whom I love to help me find happiness once again. To me this quote also means that when I am feeling my most happy and alive, I MUST share the joy with others to help them have a brighter day.
Key Learnings:
- By choosing to work on yourself and in taking the road less traveled, you can find much healing in your life.
- Your passion is on the other side of happiness, and the precursor to happiness is connecting with your inner child.
- When you put yourself out there, not only does it give you the ability to be seen and heard for your unique gifts, but it allows for greater connection across the whole world and for generations to come.
