Mark Johnson is the Executive Director of Metabo Pure, a safe weight loss and energy manager. Johnson is a big traveler, loves working out, a marketing strategist and entrepreneur.
Mark Johnson has always had a knack for marketing. He owes a lot of his success to his business savvy mind. After receiving his degree in business administration, Johnson had a few entry-level positions in the marketing realm. He sharpened his skill set with real world experience but knew he wanted to do something on a much larger scale.
Johnson, a fitness enthusiast, always enjoyed going to the gym. That was one aspect of his life that never changed. Regardless of how a day went, he would go to the gym, it was just part of his routine.
At the gym he would always see people taking different supplements, pre-workout products, post-workout powders, you name it people would try it. As Johnson got older, he began noticing that he was lacking that necessary extra kick to take his workout to the next level. He experimented with different products, but none really did what he wanted without any unwanted side effect.
Johnson set out to create a product to increase energy, reduce appetite, and help burn fat. These are the three biggest components that people at the gym were looking for. After time and experimentation, Metabo Pure was created. Metabo Pure is a safe blend that helps reduce appetite, burn fat, and increase energy levels.
After the product was created and finalized, marketing Metabo Pure was simple. Johnson knew his market and knew he had a great product; he just had to introduce the two.
Where did the idea for Metabo Pure come from?
The gym has always been a stable part of my life. From high school through college and into my professional career, I’ve always made working out a priority of mine. As my body has aged, it’s been tougher to motivate myself to workout some days and other days I’ll get to the gym and not really have the productivity I hoped for. That paired with the need to keep unwanted weight off, I knew Metabo Pure had a need.
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
I don’t really have a “typical day”. Every day is a little different. I usually start off the day by checking the livelihood of the business. I’ll then make a few calls and send some emails just to check in the operations and sales.
Productivity is easy for me. This product is my life. I devoted a lot of time and resources to the creation of Metabo Pure, so motivation is easy to come by. I always strive to do better than the last month.
How do you bring ideas to life?
I’m a firm believer in networking and brainstorming. My team and I devote a lot of time to brainstorming. This mainly happened when the product was being created and also when we were looking into a marketing strategy.
As for networking, there are a lot of people in the industry that are always there to give you that extra nudge. Through these two strategies, I was really able to bring Metabo Pure to life.
What’s one trend that really excites you?
The health and fitness trend by far. I mean this is exactly why I created this product. This trend is also one that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, which helps. There will always be a need for healthy eating and working out.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
My drive to succeed is the habit I lend my success too. I will not rest until I’m happy with my product, my strategy, and the implementation of the product’s marketing efforts. In business, you have to be goal-oriented and really be a self-starter; you need to push yourself when no one else will.
What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?
Good Question. I never really had a bad job per say. I would have to say all of the jobs prior to my current position. I wasn’t happy because I wasn’t doing what I loved. I may not have known that at the time, but I do now.
If you were to start again, what would you do differently?
Definitely would have started earlier. As I said before the health and fitness trends have been around for some time now, so there was a definite need for my product. It would have been amazing to find my passion earlier, but that’s life. I’m just happy I eventually found it!
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
I’m a firm believer in finding a hobby or passion. It helps give you a break from your business and really lets your mind and body take a break. I fell in love with working out. It’s pretty ironic that my passion became part of my livelihood.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how.
Definitely knowing who you’re target audience is and really focusing marketing efforts on them. I was able to identify my market right from the get go, which really helped in my marketing and branding campaigns. This drove sales which helped sustain my company.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest failure I had as an entrepreneur was not entering this industry earlier. I always knew that there was a market for these products, yet never took the leap. I played it safe after college, got a few different 9-5 jobs because that’s what college graduates typically do. If I could do it all over again I would go against the grain and follow my dream.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
The only business idea I can think of that’s worth noting is to follow your dreams. I know this is extremely cliché, but it’s so true. Don’t be afraid of the risk or the “what if’s”. If you are passionate about something than exploit it and follow your heart.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
I’d say recently the best $100 I spent was on a new pair of running shoes. I was in desperate need of some. The soles of my old shoes were definitely worn out and nothing is worse than running on old beat up shoes. That’s probably the best-spent $100.
What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?
I’m a big fan of social media. I love the two-way communication, the customizable ability, and especially love the user-friendly platforms. Social media is becoming a leading way to promote a business and really communicate on a personal level with your target audience. Social media has made marketing efforts very specific and extremely powerful.
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
I recently read Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. I always knew how special of a person Jobs was, but never really understood how big of a leader and marketing specialist he was too. The book was extremely inspirational and just an all around entertaining read.
Who do you lend your success to?
I would have to say my family is the main reason I’ve been successful. I know that regardless of how my day goes at work, I can take a deep breath and come home to my supportive and loving family. They are a huge motivation to me. They want me to be successful. They’re loving, caring, and beyond amazing!
