What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

I start each morning with meditation, exercise, and wellness. This includes formal sitting for at least 30 minutes, usually a peloton workout, and then some tea, tongue scraping and lemon water. After that, I am ready to start and usually begin meeting around 7 or 8 AM. I rotate between offices on campus and in the community, some days I am seeing individual clients, other days I am meeting with students, and in between working on research and writing.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I have a great team of collaborators. They help to bring some of the ideas to fruition. The best leaders keep intelligent, motivated and organized folks around them. So I can be a creative thinker with people around me that help bring those ideas to life.

What’s one trend that excites you?

An emphasis on workplace wellbeing. I thrive off helping professionals find purpose and balance in their life, and the focus on health and wellbeing at work excites me.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

Taking breaks to walk outside.

What advice would you give your younger self?

You are worthy and although you work hard and have been successful, all the adversity and uniqueness you feel now will make you feel better soon.

Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you.

People are inherently good.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

Korean spa. The focus on cleansing the body through whirlpools, scrubs, massage and sweating is cathartic. It is a physical practice that helps with the spiritual.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

I go to the spa and spend more time meditating. I often say that meditation is the barometer for the day. When you sit and you want to get up and start moving, that means we could benefit from more time on the cushion. Listen to the inner self.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

Letting go of the small things and accepting that people will always come for you. The human condition is full of competition and insecurities. This means that people we work with may not always like or understand us. That is OK. Keep moving and practice compassion.

What is one failure in your career, how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

There was one time recently where I was attacked due to other insecurities. It was one of the most challenging things that I had to deal with professionally and, with large institutions, we are often unable to share the entire story. To combat this, I focused on my health and wellbeing. I was able to visit with my family, care for a family member in need, study with my teacher more (he is 90 and lives in NY). I made sure to sleep well, eat healthier, and exercise.

What is one business idea you’re willing to give away to our readers?

The healthier you are, the more productive you will be.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Electronic health records. Some consultants do not want to spend the money, but I find it is the best money spent.

What is the best $100 you recently spent?

Gifts for staff that support me. I get a lot from helping others and seeing those around me happy.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast from which you’ve received much value?

Wherever you go, there you are by John Kabat-Zinn.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

Animal planet (and any sporting event). I try and connect with nature as much as possible, and television can allow that.
