Dr. Ryan Shelton

You have to know when to work and when to delegate. No one can be the best at everything.

Dr. Ryan Shelton is a Board and N.A.B.N.E. Certified Doctor that has sought to revolutionize the skincare industry through his innovative take on anti-aging products. Dr. Shelton was educated in Biochemistry and received his Masters from the University of Kansas. He studied medicine at the prestigious Bastyr University and took his doctoral education forward into the world of skincare alongside his unique perspective. While other doctors followed preset paths into the cosmetics and plastic surgery industries, Dr. Ryan did hands-on work in pharmacies and and women’s clinics. This experience and education combined into the entity that is South Beach Skin Lab which consists of an array of specially formulated products that have been engineered with one common goal: fresher, younger looking skin. Dr. Ryan’s alternative viewpoint on wrinkle repair has made his products a hit among women.

Why did you get involved with South Beach Skin Lab?

I became involved with South Beach Skin Lab, because I was sick and tired of looking for a wrinkle repair solution that I could actually recommend to my patients, a product which I actually stand behind. From that moment forward we made it our mission to create a cutting edge, innovative, and unique skin care product line unlike anything else in the market. I think we achieved that goal.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

When I am not seeing patients, I am in front of my computer conducting research, studying reports, and trying to push skin care technology forward. This might sound boring to some people, but it is my passion, and because it’s my passion I can be productive.

How do you bring ideas to life?

There is only one trick to bringing products to life, I make sure that I work with an incredible team. Nobody can do everything alone, and I truly believe in surrounding yourself with people who inspire you.

What’s one trend in skin care that excites you?

One of the trends I am most excited about is coupling topical skin creams with oral supplements that help to create synergistic effect that can heal your skin from the inside and the outside at the same time.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive?

I try to achieve peace of mind, when I cut out the distractions of daily life, I can have laser sharp focus, helping me connect more dots together. To do this I often practice meditation, exercise, and sometimes yoga!

What advice would you give your younger self?

Always believe in yourself and happiness is a far greater treasure than money.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

Food really is the best medicine. In a lot of different ways, when we eat healthy our bodies operate more efficiently and when we eat the foods that we love our mind feels at ease.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

I find other individuals that like to work hard and connect them to create a network of like minded people. This is a theme throughout all my successes, you have to know when to work and when to delegate. No one can be the best at everything.

What is one failure you had as a doctor, and how did you overcome it?

I once relocated and sold an existing medical practice to another doctor, not fully understanding that the practice was so successful because of the relationships I had built over the years. That practice then failed because the patients did not like the new doctor. I overcame it by creating a new practice.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

A nice dinner on a date night with my wife so I could keep falling in love with her.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

Nutritional Medicine” by Alan R. Gaby because it is a thorough encyclopedia of nutritional medicine.
