Where did the idea for your company come from?

I opened up my own practice because I am an independent thinker. I appreciate the ability to express my needs in my private space. With this, I have the freedom to explore and work towards my own goals which I wouldn’t be at liberty to do working for someone else.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

My typical day involves meeting with potential clients, reviewing cases, staying up to date with new case laws, and drafting legal motions.

In your specialty of medical malpractice, what is one trend that you have observed?

Ten years ago, people didn’t openly support the fact that doctors make mistakes. Medical research has proven that doctors do make a significant amount of errors that have resulted in the death of their patients. These studies and reports have importantly shed light on issues the general public had not previously been aware of.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

My ability to focus solely on my client’s issues is the key to my effectiveness and productivity in being the legal entrepreneur that I am. I’m quite good at blocking out the bombardment of unimportant emails and other daily distractions that can hold back one’s productivity.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

As an attorney with significant experience in personal injury cases, I have to express that medical errors are far more commonplace than people are aware.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

I practice the following and recommend this to others: Be yourself. Be kind. And be understanding. These three things are key to achieving success in your personal and professional life.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

I have built my business by building personal relationships with my clients. My clients are my friends. When you are looking out for the well-being of another, you build a friendship. My clients understand that I support them and will be there for them always.

What software and web services do you use? What do you love about them?

I use a legal software called LexisNexis, and it is essentially, ‘Google for attorneys.’ When I first started practicing, I had to physically search through indexes in a legal library. Now, using this software, I can search through all cases, and narrow my search based on court location and topic depending on the keywords used. It’s a great tool that I use often.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The Obstacle is the Way” by Ryan Holiday. The book is based on the philosophy of stoicism. It stresses the importance of how we react to failure, make light of it and continue forward without complaint.

There is an example in the book that mentioned Thomas Edison’s house burning down. Inside were all his findings and belongings. Instead of reacting poorly, he was amazed at how grand and immense the fire was. Even though he lost everything in the home, he simply accepted it and started anew. This book is a concise book, but nonetheless, it will help you deal with the pitfalls and negativity we face in life. This book is a must read!
