Camille Chulick

Never set limits for yourself, question your own beliefs, and once you put your mind to accomplish something, don’t quit until you have completed it even when it seems you are never going to get there.

Camille Chulick is in the business of changing lives. When she was personally plagued with painful acne that countless women struggle with for a lifetime, she took matters into her own hands. Dermatologists, doctors, prescriptions, home remedies, and diet changes offered no relief, but she wasn’t willing to take no for an answer. Determined that a lifetime of acne was not an option, she studied, researched, and tested to find a solution for her problem skin. Necessity, as they say, is the mother of invention, and so Averr Aglow was born.

Armed with years of research and personal experience, Camille developed a line of skincare products for every woman who wants healthy skin, whether they struggle with acne or not. With an affinity for natural, high-quality ingredients, and a devotion to achieving real results, Averr Aglow delivers on their promises to customers.

At the tender age of 13, Camille was introduced to the discomfort and embarrassment of a face full of blemishes. 16 years, countless treatments, products, and a slew of doctors later, she was no closer to a solution for her skin. Instead of simply trying product after product without success, she decided to learn everything there was to know about acne: where it comes from, why she had it, which ingredients provided long term results and which were a short-term fix that only exacerbated the problem in the end. What she found was an eye-opening look into the skincare industry that gave her the motivation to make a difference, not only for her skin but for every woman who has ever cried when she looked in the mirror or canceled plans out of embarrassment.

In 2015, Chulick started her company Averr Aglow in Atlanta, Ga. She continues to find inspiration in her customers and their success. Thousands of women from ages 20-40 have benefitted from Averr Aglow. Seeing before and after photos and grateful testimonials give her the incentive to continue to provide solutions and keep developing new products to heal further and nourish the skin. No matter age, race, religion, demographics, income, or culture, anyone will receive relief from Averr Aglow and its founder, Camille Chulick.

Where did the idea for Averr Aglow come from?

I wouldn’t call it an idea, it was more of fixing a burning pain point in my life. During my journey, I realized how many other women were dealing with this exact same problem and knowing what it feels like to feel lost and hopeless in finding the solution. I knew I couldn’t just keep this to myself; I had to share it as I knew it was life-changing.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I always start the day with a cup of coffee or three depending on what is ahead of me that day. 🙂 I am not a believer in a rigid 9-5 schedule, so if my attention is required at office nine, I will be there at 9, but if it’s needed by seven, then I will be there then. Most of my energy and time now is spent on training my team to make sure we are all on the same page and that they have the needed resources to accomplish their goals for the day. I still do check Instagram comments, DMs, and our Facebook group and provide feedback and answer questions to those needing help. I try to avoid the to-do list as most of the time, those lists only consist of things that are urgent but not always important. I focus on more of what goals I am after and what needs to be accomplished that day, that week, that month, to achieve those goals.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I am full of ideas, and I love bringing those concepts to life. So I generally will focus on one aspect of something to create plans around it. I use vision boards so that I can communicate those ideas to my team so we can discuss them and tweak the ideas to become even better, along with creating an action plan.

What’s one trend that excites you?

Clean Beauty. The market has demanded the need for clean ingredients and the industry has been shifting so much and in a manner that is going back to what is good for the body while still providing results.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

Never set limits for yourself, question your own beliefs, and once you put your mind to accomplish something, don’t quit until you have completed it even when it seems you are never going to get there.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Just start. You will never make your initial concepts perfect and trying to make them perfect will slow you down in starting. Improve as you progress and call in others that are better than you to help you see the vision. Perfectionism is the anti-progress.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

Breakouts are not as complicated as everyone has made them out to be. Why did it take me 16 years to fully understand this process when I had consulted with many “experts” on this issue?

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Challenge the status quo. I am always asking questions when it comes to improving. Don’t accept good enough. Always look at how to improve yourself, the project your working on, and your relationships. Most importantly, do things you have never down to expand your limiting beliefs of what is possible and how it can be done.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

Make sure when you are selling something, whether it be a service or product – it needs to be relatable and not just marketable. I don’t like being the center of attention and I hate getting on camera. However, I do it because it allows others to see me, hear my story and relate to who I was and how I can help them. So many times we think we are the only one dealing with something, and you find that if you put yourself out there, others will relate.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

Our mindsets can control our outcomes and limit us from achieving the goals we are after. When I would fail at something, I would let a negative mindset keep me in fear of trying again quickly or pushing past the failure from accomplishing the goal. When I was succeeding, I was unstoppable. Now I keep a close eye on what state of mind I am in when I am dealing with challenges.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Ideas are useless, it’s the execution of the idea where real businesses live.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

A massage, many people look at this as a luxury. However, very few consider the mental health benefits of this type of downtime. I demand a lot from myself every day to perform, and if I want to keep performing at a peak state, I have to give back what I require of myself.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?

I love slack. It allows my team and me to communicate quickly and effectively.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

No one book will change your life or make you successful. It is essential to understand that if you choose this path, you will always have to develop and grow. If you’re starting, I would say Think and Grow Rich as it is the cornerstone to pushing past mindsets and taking your business to the first level.

What is your favorite quote?

“Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.” – Bill Gates

Key Learnings:

  • If you have an issue, don’t assume people that are considered experts have the best answers.
  • Always test what you believe in and what you don’t believe in. Let the results form your new beliefs. Always. Passion, when combined with the proper desire, will create results.
