Times may get tough and there are always going to be obstacles you face. It is about how you handle them and move forward that really shows what kind of person you are.

Entrepreneur and inventor, Nisan Lamden, has created a multi-use beauty product called Dual-Shave. Nisan began his career as a certified diamond grader, dealer, and jeweler. He attended UCLA and has a degree/certification from the Gemological Institute of America. After spending 14 years in the industry, Nisan pursued his growing passion of cosmetology and became a certified and licensed cosmetologist based in Los Angeles, California. Nisan specialized in hair, skin, and nail care and possesses strong attention to minor details. During his career in cosmetology, Nisan noticed that other stylists were producing their own products based off of their favorite products. These products were nothing new except for how they were labeled. This sparked an idea for Nisan and drove him to want to create something original and helped people solve their skin care issues. As an inventor, Nisan did not follow the trend of making a product and slapping on a new label. Instead, Nisan Lamden created an improved product that could help people in ways that other products could not. Nisan had grown up dealing with sensitive skin and was never able to find a product to help. He wanted to create something that would not only be non-irritating but also help remove acne and signs of aging.

Nisan Lamden’s idea resulted in the ultimate skin care product, Dual-Shave. A multi-use beauty product with versions for both men and women. Nisan’s product helps prevent acne, blackheads, aging, and even reduces or eliminates razor burn. Not only did Nisan gear Dual-Shave to help people but also animals. Dual-Shave is an example set for animal-free product testing. Making it a priority, Nisan lets his customers know that none of his products were ever or will ever be tested on animals. Nisan Lamden sets a positive example for companies by displaying that products can be successful and effective without harming a living creature. Nisan proves that there can be successful beauty products that do not have to harm other creatures.

Nisan Lamden’s activism does not only extend to animals but also in the distribution and signing of the anti-plastic straw petition that Starbucks put in motion. After Nisan delivered the petition and it was accepted and implemented by Starbucks, there was a large decrease in the amount of plastic Starbucks customers put into the environment. This will drastically cut down on the plastic waste Starbucks produces and have a positive impact on the environment. Setting yet another example for companies seeking to achieve similar results.

Nisan continues to be a highly successful activist and a thought leader in his community by being a prominent member of a movement that is striving to provide FedEx drivers with AC and heat in their trucks. FedEx drivers currently exposed to dangerous temperature extremes and have no way to fight against the heat and cold. Nisan Lamden will no doubt continue to achieve success with his company and in his pursuits to help notable causes and will become even more of an inspiration in his community and beyond.

Where did the idea for your company come from?

The idea for Dual-Shave came from when I was a young child. I was always breaking out from the shaving cream I would use since I had such sensitive skin. I couldn’t find anything that would work to help clear up and stop irritating my skin. I wanted to create something that would actually work for myself and others with sensitive skin.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I am usually getting everything in line for Dual-Shave such as, testing, insurance, improving the formula, getting the product patented, keeping up with sales, and getting the website ready. I really use my days to keep everyone on the same path to make sure Dual-Shave can launch successfully. I have the desire to lead this company to success and to create something that helps others which keeps me going each and every day. Staying productive is easy when you know your end goal is going to be helpful to others.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I went to school to learn as much as possible about creating a product. I used my time in school and during the beginning of my career to watch how other people create their businesses. I learned from their mistakes and was able to use those examples in creating Dual-Shave.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The beauty industry. I think it is amazing that major brands are not straying away from using animals for test subjects. I was able to create Dual-Shaves entire product line without having to ever test on a single animal. The beauty industry has quite a few large players still using animal testing and to be apart of the few that don’t, is really exciting to me.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I have a large desire to succeed. I want to succeed so my son has something to follow in the future. I also want to be a part of something that helps other people. I look at other people to keep me motivated during my creating of Dual-Shave because, in the end, that is who Dual-Shave is for.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t give up. Times may get tough and there are always going to be obstacles you face. It is about how you handle them and move forward that really shows what kind of person you are. I never gave up my dream of creating a unique product and I am very happy at where I am now because of never giving up.

Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.

A lot of people think I should go slowly and not put a lot of money into the company so quickly. Many people are afraid of taking a risk and I tend to argue against that and say you have to take a risk to become successful. I put a lot of money into the company quickly and it has been very rewarding. If you don’t believe in your product enough to take a risk on it, you shouldn’t be trying to create it.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

I like to stay focused on the tasks at hand. Situations come up whether it’s personal or professional but I do not allow it to pull me away from my work. You have to be disciplined to be able to have the power not to get distracted from your end goal. Whether it’s a project that has to be done by the end of the day or by the end of the month, you have to stay focused.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

I watch other business people. I watch television shows like Shark Tank, I watch my father with his diamond company, and I watch my friends in the real estate industry. I am then able to learn about different industries and how people failed and succeeded in their business endeavors. I make a list of failures and know what not to do in my own business endeavors.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

I made the mistake of putting a single word on tubes for my products. I put patented on my products before they were, causing me to reproduce 5,000 tubes. It was a very tiny detail that was overlooked and it made me more cautious with my wording on everything else from there on out.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

If you are creating a business go through a reputable law firm. The law firms I used, helped me through the wording and contracts of creating a company. Protecting your company and brand the correct way.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

Finding a great testing facility is a major priority when starting to create your products. They have tests for all products for skin-care hair products. It helps me get my products ready for retail without testing on animals. I use Bio Screen for all of my products.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

I enjoy reading works by Edgar Allan Poe. His style is very unique and he makes you have to think. There is a lot of meaning behind his writing and the way he is able to mix darkness, death, and love together is amazing.
