Patrick Lange

President of Business Modification Group

Patrick Lange with Business Modification Group specializes in the sale and acquisition of heating and air companies. Patrick has been an entrepreneur his entire life buying, growing, and selling businesses in multiple industries, including owning a residential heating and air company.

Patrick is considered an expert in the field of business brokerage having earned multiple awards for transactions and dollar volume of businesses sold.

Patrick decided several years ago to focus exclusively on heating and air companies after seeing a need for someone with specific knowledge of the industry as well as the ability to market these businesses in an effective manner to help his clients achieve predictable results. Since he made that transition, he has sold over 100 heating and air companies.

In addition to facilitating the sale of heating and air companies, Patrick also provides valuations for those who are interested in learning the current value of their business in the market as well as strategies to increase the potential selling price.

If you are looking to partner with someone to help you buy or sell a heating and air business, or looking to see what your company may be worth, reach out to Patrick on his website at www.businessmodificationgroup.com, by phone at 352-440-4604, or by email at [email protected]. What is your typical day, and how do you make it productive?

I spend the bulk of my time on the phone talking with buyers and sellers. Most sellers are not sure where to go to get information, so I spend a lot of my time educating people on what their business is worth, and things they could do to increase its value. I also spend a lot of time making sure listings that we have under contract are on pace to close. Items such as due diligence calls, providing information to banks and buyers, as well as planning the transition.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I have been both a buyer and seller in the past, so I try to share information that I was looking for when I was in my clients’ shoes. I do that through writing articles, posting youtube videos, as well as going on podcasts, and speaking at industry events.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The buyer demand for heating and air and plumbing companies.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

I am an early riser. I think getting my day off to a great start early, helps carry the day.

What advice would you give your younger self?

You are enough. You can do anything you are willing to work for and believe in.

Tell us something you believe almost nobody agrees with you.

You can change your life instantly, once you decide to.

What is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

Spend time with family and loved ones.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

Stop for a few minutes, catch my breath, and then write everything down that needs to be done. It is often not as overwhelming as it appears in your mind.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business or advance in your career?

Giving information away.

What is one failure in your career, how did you overcome it, and what lessons did you take away from it?

Thinking too small. Not having confidence that I could achieve something greater. I overcame it by reading and listening to positive things and successful people.

What is one business idea you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Focus on the niche. It is challenging to be everything to everyone. Find your niche and become the expert.

What is one piece of software that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

My CRM: I use it to track information, follow-ups, my calendar, etc.

What is the best $100 you recently spent?

Going out to dinner with my family.

Do you have a favorite book or podcast from which you’ve received much value?

Podcast: Joel Osteen, Book: Pursuit of Happiness. Joel helps me stay positive and believe that I am destined to achieve great things. Pursuit of Happiness is the story of working hard and doing a good job and the success that comes with it no matter where you start.

What’s a movie or series you recently enjoyed and why?

I do not really have a favorite. I love funny shows/movies. Anything that takes your mind off the normal day-to-day and allows you to laugh.

Key learnings:

  • Believe in yourself and what you are doing. You are enough.
  • Take time to reflect on your why.
  • Outwork everyone when you are getting started. You will make mistakes, but your working hard will keep you moving in the right direction.
